Why one exercise doesn’t usually fix bladder leakage is because we are more complex that a cookie cutter treatment.

It comes down to a few basic things when we are first looking at the drivers of p*e leakage and will help guide us in the right direction.

✅ What are the muscles doing? Strength, endurance, coordination. Yes for the pelvic floor muscles exam, but also in real life what are they doing? Sensation and a person knowing what their muscles are doing is also informative.
✅ What is the muscle tone? Are the muscles super tight or super relaxed? We should be able to go from each range of tone but this can change the focus from pure strengthening to also more coordination training to relax too.
✅ Is there pain present? Pain must be treated. This can often be why muscles are acting differently now than they did in the past.
✅ Is there urge present? This focuses on getting to the root of the urgency, which could be a stimulus, stressors, reduced sleep, food/drink, bathroom environment, an upregulated nervous system, etc

The more information we know, the better when can treat and the better our outcomes can be.

Our home exercise programs are geared towards function. Yes, sometimes we focus on traditional exercises to optimize in daily function. We can break this down a ton depending on your symptoms. If you don’t understand why your PT gave you an exercise or something to do at home make sure to ask. All exercises program or modifications to your activities of daily living should always be geared towards your big goals.

Whether it is pain with p*eing or p**ping it can be helped with pelvic PT. The pelvic floor muscles play a big role in elimination.

We work on pain management strategies and help you with strategies on the toilet to make going to the bathroom easier.

It starts with a pelvic PT evaluation and from there I help you along the way to making the bathroom a little less intimidating.

Your body may still be trying to protect you from those big events, even though mentally you may have processed them and moved on.

You didn’t do anything wrong. You just need help to get out of that fight, flight, or freeze mode aka the sympathetic nervous system.

5 years ago I interviewed my daughter who was 4 at the time on what we need to know about going p**p. Audio on for this cute and informative interview. Some silly talk about going p**p makes it less stressful when we can talk about it openly.

Give us a call to schedule your pelvic PT appointments today for all your p**p problems.

No, I do not treat cats or dogs… just humans.

I had to make a work call to a male patient and my 9 year old daughter was surprised that I treat men too.

When I started my career I thought I would only treat women. Maybe because my beginning training was focused on just women and I found it intimidating to treat men. However, something was calling me to open my practice to all genders. The stories from men and their symptoms tugged at my heart to provide more for the community as a whole.

So, no I am no longer intimidated with treating all genders anymore. I’ve trained across various conditions for all genders to feel confident helping anyone. The best part is, their symptoms are reducing and I am able to give people more hope and a glimpse at their old selves again.

Sure, the anatomy looks different, but pelvic floor muscles are not that much different between males and females.

There is hope to a life with less or no pelvic floor symptoms. I’ve seen it with countless patients.

Is it your tailbone? Checking just the external parts of the tailbone doesn’t give the full story of what is driving your tailbone pain.

Pass this along if you learned something.

Give us a call if you are ready to do things without constantly noticing your tailbone pain.

Kegels or pelvic floor muscles contractions are needed with coughing and sneezing. Keep in mind that this does require coordination to quickly recruit muscles to maintain closure around the urethra (where the p*e comes out) but also endurance to sustain closure as you sneeze or cough. Plus, those muscles need to be strong enough to withhold the pressure changes that build up in your abdomen to provide the support your pelvic floor needs.

If you are doing kegels and they don’t seem to be working, make sure to work with a pelvic PT. We help your pelvic floor, but we also look at other areas of your body that may impact your bladder control. Hint: this may include looking at your abdomen, ribs, spine, and your other pelvic floor functions (p**ping) to help you gain better control.
