In recognition of National Diabetes Awareness Month, NMNPC President Shawnna Read shares a personal story about nearly missing the early signs of her son's type 1 diabetes. His symptoms—excessive thirst, frequent urination, and increased hunger—were easy to overlook as normal childhood changes. It was her sister, a nurse, whose quick insight recognized the warning signs and urged immediate testing, helping prevent the situation from progressing to diabetic ketoacidosis.
