This is a complex foot deformity. It develops as a result of loss of sensation and an undetected broken bone that leads to destruction of the soft tissue of the foot.

Charcot disease is not well understood, but what we think happens is that a patient's nerves can’t control the blood flow to the feet very well, and increased blood flow “washes out” the bones and they begin to collapse.

Patients complain typically of numbness in the foot, radiating to the big toe and the first 3 toes, pain, burning, electrical sensations, and tingling over the base of the foot and the heel.

TTS is more common in athletes, active people, or individuals who stand a lot. These people put more stress on the tarsal tunnel area.

Unlike sudden injuries, bunions develop gradually over time. What might start as a slight bump can evolve into a more pronounced deformity that affects your walking pattern, shoe choices, and overall foot comfort. The condition occurs when the metatarsophalangeal joint at the base of the big toe becomes misaligned, pushing the toe's bone outward and creating the characteristic bump.
