Providing the most comprehensive collection of sustainably produced & biodegradable urns, caskets, and memorial products. was founded in 1999, as the now rapidly growing trend for greener funerals was at its earliest stage. While many companies now offer some green funeral merchandise, Passages is dedicated to providing sustainable choices. We design and produce many of our own products, and stand

behind them. Our quality and service are unsurpassed. The breadth of our offerings is unavailable anywhere else. We began the company by providing affordable and environmentally friendly options for families who chose to have a more eco-conscious ritual for their loved ones. Our urns offered an alternative to the cardboard and plastic box containing a loved one’s cremated remains that was typically given to grieving families who did not select an urn. Passages creates and distributes the best quality products, produced without cutting down trees. In addition, most of our products are crafted by hand from sustainable or recycled resources, using antique molds and centuries old techniques. We use recycled cardboard boxes with biodegradable peanuts for packing and shipping, and are proud to support several conservation organizations dedicated to preserving our pristine planet for future generations. Passages is a family owned and operated business, and we have over 75 years of combined service to the funeral industry. Our family has been serving the funeral needs of communities in Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado for almost 50 years. We are proud to be approved by Green America as a socially and environmentally responsible business. We are also a member of the Green Burial Council, an organization working to make burial more meaningful, simple, and sustainable, and have been a member since their inception. We offer by far the greatest variety of product that has been approved by the Green Burial Council

A growing number of people are looking for greener funeral options. Passages offers the most complete selection of sustainably produced and biodegradable urns, caskets, and memorial products. We are dedicated to offering personalized options to families who desire environmentally friendly choices for their end-of-life rituals.

A family placed a biodegradable sea turtle urn into the ocean. Real sea turtles surfaced and circled nearby. That is the kind of moment no funeral home could plan, but a great product can make possible.

Passages International, Inc. - Green Funeral Products' Sea Turtle Urn just got three new color options (Dune, Moss, and Surf) giving families even more ways to personalize a water-based farewell. The urns are handcrafted, biodegradable, float briefly before descending, and now include a digital code to mark the exact scattering location and create an online memorial. For funeral homes looking to differentiate their merchandise with products that tell a story, this one delivers.

Sharing this because I had no idea it was an option but now I’m definitely going out like this…

After 9.5 years of battling cancer, my aunt, being the savvy woman she was, planned her own after life care.

She was cremated and put into a water biodegradable urn shaped like a sea turtle.

She asked a friend to charter her family out to spot off the coast where she was baptized.

After we all said goodbye, her daughters put her in the water.
Just like paperwork said, she floated for a bit, almost as though she was saying her final goodbye to us.
Slowly, she disappeared below the water.

It was beautiful and peaceful.

If you’re looking for an alternative to being left on the mantle, check out Passages International, Inc.

This is not an ad. They don’t even know I’m posting this.

May 23 is World Turtle Day! Right now in the Northern Hemisphere, turtles and tortoises are giving way to new life in the height of their nesting season. And while this beautiful cycle of nature occurs, turtles are now more than ever facing threats of habitat destruction and the effects of climate change. At Passages International, habitat and wildlife conservation is a chief priority and one of the motivations for creating and offering the products that we do. Our Sea Turtle Urn is 100% biodegradable, so that individuals can invest in a water burial that not only honors the decedent, but honors the lives of the creatures who call the waters their home.

When you pass away, will you be cremated? Where would you like your remains to be? Do you want them all kept together or scattered in several places that you once loved?

Steven Bleicher was an artist, an art professor, and a color theory expert who created a series of works inspired by Route 66. He passed away unexpectedly in March, 2025. In his will, his dying wish was to have his ashes scattered along Route 66. His death educator sister in-law, Gail Rubin, obliged to take him on his final journey.

In Part 1 of this series, Gail was given permission to scatter Steven at Santa Rosa Blue Hole in Santa, Rosa New Mexico. She opted to use our Token Scattering Kit for Steven's last Route 66 road trip with 6 matching Silver Lining Token Scattering Tubes. Passages Scattering Kits come in two sizes with six possible designs to mix and match with.

Follow along while Gail documents driving Steven to his final rest stops and memorializes the destinations using .life.

The demand for eco-friendly burial solutions is on the rise, and with that is the development of new, innovative, green burial alternatives. This article from Good Good Good highlights three of those alternative options, including artificial reefs, human composting, and mushroom caskets, the last of which is proudly offered at Passages International.

The Loop Living Cocoon™ from Loop Biotech is the world's first living coffin, designed to transform the end of life into a regenerative act. These mycelium caskets take just seven days to grow and just another 45 days to decompose, making it a fast, sustainable alternative to traditional caskets that use hardwood and non-renewable resources like plastic, steel, and other metals. Both the casket and human remains enrich the surrounding soil as they break down, promoting new life.

Head to Passages' website to learn more about the Loop Living Cocoon™ mushroom coffin today.

The green burial industry is expected to surpass $1 billion by the end of 2030.

One of the problems we often hear from grievers choosing to scatter cremated remains a concern about the wind them blowing back onto the people present at the scattering ceremony. At Passages International, our biodegradable water burial urns, including our Sea Turtle Urns, offer a way to cleanly scatter cremains without any ashy accidents. Just load the remains through the bottom of the turtle in the provided biodegradable bag and seal with the provided eco-friendly glue. The turtle is designed to float briefly before slowly sinking into the water for a serene ceremony and mess free release of a loved one's ashes.

Have you ever considered a natural burial? Passages International had the recent pleasure of visiting La Puerta Natural Burial Ground, a conservation cemetery located in Belen, New Mexico, for their World Labyrinth Day event. The day was opened with a death cafe, followed by a labyrinth walk, and ended with a green burial demonstration led by La Puerta owners Bryan Beard and Claire McFayden.

As of now, La Puerta is the only Green Burial Council Certified cemetery fully dedicated to green burials in New Mexico. It is also one of only a couple dozen conservation cemeteries in the United States, setting the stage not only for natural decomposition, but for natural land and habitat preservation as well. Our visit on World Labyrinth Day was a beautiful opportunity to see the legacy of what we do here at Passages in practice.
