We are so proud of all the students who participated in the Central NM Regional Science Olympiad! ⚛

Hosted by the UNM STEM-H Center, this tournament is a rigorous academic interscholastic team competition that consists of a series of events for which students prepare during the year. These challenging and motivational events are well-balanced between the various disciplines of biology/life sciences, earth science, chemistry, physics, engineering, computers, and technology. There is also a balance between events requiring knowledge of facts, concepts, processes, skills and hands-on applications.

21 middle and high school teams competed, and their hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm were on full display throughout the entire day!

B Division Top 3 Team Results:
1st place – Albuquerque Area Homeschoolers
2nd place – Albuquerque Academy B1
3rd place – Mountain Mahogany Community School

C Division Top 3 Team Results:
1st place - La Cueva High School C1
2nd place – Cottonwood Classical Prep
3rd place – Albuquerque Academy C1

We thank UNM Department of Africana Studies and African American Student Services for hosting the 41st Annual Black History Month Brunch at The University of New Mexico! Throughout February, we've felt centered, inspired, and grounded by attending this momentous event alongside colleagues and partners from across New Mexico. Additionally, the words shared by keynote speaker, Albuquerque City Councilor Nichole Rogers, perfectly created the space to reflect on servant leadership and rootedness.

Calling for volunteers! 📣

On Monday, February 9, 2026, our office's Communities to Careers Team is excited to host the 2nd Annual Native American Health Care Career Expo! This year's theme, "Lighting the Flame: Indigenous Healthcare Leaders of Tomorrow," invites high school students from across the state to learn more about careers in health care, meet health care professionals, and participate in hands-on interactive sessions! The expo will be held at the APS Berna Facio Professional Development Center from 8:30am to 1:00pm.

As you know with big events like these, the support of volunteers is key for creating positive experiences for all participants and to ensure smooth transitions throughout the event. Volunteers can assist in many ways including being a part of the set up crew, helping with check in, acting as a guide for presenters, note taking, and helping with clean up. The day will span from 7:30am to 2:00pm for volunteers, so any time slots a volunteer is available for is a huge help!

We hope you can join us on February 9th as we welcome high school students from across the state of New Mexico for this one-day event!

Our office is sending a huge congratulations to our Health Professions Scholar and Public Ally, Samata. She graduated from UNM College of Nursing last week! 🎓

Samata has been an incredible part of our team, consistently going above and beyond. She took the lead on organizing years of historical data, making a massive, lasting impact on our work. We're thrilled that Samata will be continuing her work with us through Public Allies New Mexico through next spring as she prepares to take her NCLEX exam and starts her residency. We are so excited to see her step into her career as a nurse!

The UNM HSC Office for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion is committed to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment throughout New Mexico through capacity building, sustainable programs, collaborations, shared vision, and responsibility. 🌟

On this Giving Tuesday, we are thankful for the many heartfelt connections and partnerships that have made our mission a reality. 💝

Our programs reach learners, teachers, health professionals, and community collaborators throughout the state. Through our health care pathway programs including Communities to Careers, ENLACE NM, and STEM-H, we are committed to growing New Mexico’s diverse health care workforce in partnership with communities across New Mexico. Other key initiatives, such as our Inclusive Excellence Council, encourage innovation and transformation in collaboration with local, state, and national entities to address key health, economic and educational inequities.

This work is possible because of you and the belief that together, we recognize, cultivate and promote all forms of diversity; we aim to understand and address the health needs of our communities; and we advance clinical, academic, and research excellence.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for considering us for a donation. You can find our other funds on our Giving webpage at https://hsc.unm.edu/diversity/alumni-giving/.
