Join for Grand Rounds this Friday 8/22 with Dr Sancy Leachman! 🚨
Dr. Sancy A. Leachman, MD, PhD, is a renowned physician-scientist and Vice-Chair of Faculty Engagement in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Utah and Chair of the Southwest Oncology Group’s Melanoma Prevention Working Group.
Dr Leachman’s research is centered around patients at high-risk for developing melanoma, with an emphasis on familial melanoma syndrome. She is most interested in prevention, early detection, and chemoprevention of melanoma, particularly in genetically predisposed melanoma families, and in developing diagnostic tools, prognostic indicators, and/or targeted agents for the prevention of melanoma. She has received grant funding from a number of foundations, including the Doris Duke Charitable Trust, the Department of Defense, and the NIH via R03 and R01 awards.
Dr Leachman earned M.D., and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dallas, Texas; completed Dermatology residency and fellowship in cutaneous oncology at Yale University. After fellowship, she was recruited to the University of Utah to build a new melanoma program, and ultimately became Director of the Melanoma and Cutaneous Oncology Program at Huntsman Cancer Institute, as well as a tenured Professor in the Department of Dermatology. In 2013, Dr. Leachman was recruited to be Chair of the Department of Dermatology and Director of the Melanoma and Skin Cancer Program at Oregon Health & Science University, where she remained until 2025 when she returned to the University of Utah. We welcome Dr. Leachman to New Mexico and look forward to a robust discussion on how her work can help us in our mission to transform Dermatology here!
