UNM International Mountain Medicine Center

UNM International Mountain Medicine Center The UNM International Mountain Medicine Center trains community members and professional rescuers in mountain medicine and mountain rescue best practices.

We are active mountain recreationalists and professional mountain rescuers. We provide medical care for injured patients far away from an urban center as paramedics, physician assistants, physicians and nurses. We also train other community members and professionals to provide the same lifesaving care in extreme environments by teaching the Diploma in Mountain Medicine, Wilderness First Responder,

Wilderness EMT Upgrade and Wilderness First Aid courses. We specialize in medicine and technical rescue, and we believe the best mountain rescuers provide optimal medical care and utilize advanced rope rescue skills. Come train with us and learn how we rescue in the mountains. www.unmmountainmed.com

What We Do.

The International Mountain Medicine Center at the University of New Mexico is one of the premier programs for mountain emergency medicine and rescue in the world. Our faculty consists of mountain rescue paramedics, emergency medicine physicians, and mountain guides. We focus our teachings on internationally accepted and evidence based concepts, and strive to contribute to the general knowledge base of our field through research, education, and our own mountain rescue practice in New Mexico. Our internationally recognized courses equip health professionals with the knowledge and skills to adapt their medical practices to the mountains. Students leave ready to become technical and medical leaders for rescue teams around the globe.
