🌟 BREAKING BARRIERS, CHANGING LIVES 🌟
Did you know that Hispanic children with autism often wait YEARS longer for speech therapy services? 😔 That's why UNM's Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences is training the next generation of bilingual speech-language pathologists who can provide culturally responsive care in both English AND Spanish! 🗣️✨ These future therapists aren't just learning techniques - they're becoming bridges to better communication, understanding, and hope for New Mexican families. This is just ONE of the amazing initiatives happening at our Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences! 🎓

Our graduate students are here helping a client successfully integrate a switch with his augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) device. Watching him communicate more independently was an incredible moment for both him and his family.

This is exactly the kind of hands-on, life-changing experience our students gain during clinical rotations. When you train with us, you'll work directly with clients, applying cutting-edge techniques and witnessing firsthand how speech-language pathology transforms lives.

CMS’ recent update to the Medicare Benefit Policy Manual has made clinical fellows (CFs) ineligible to bill Medicare Part B. This impacts CFs’ jobs and Medicare beneficiaries’ access to care.
