Looking for communication tools and resources?

This Wednesday, the NM Technology Assistance Program is hosting a free evening training with PRC-Saltillo focused on AAC (augmentative & alternative communication) devices and apps that help individuals with speech challenges communicate using pictures, words, and speech-generating technology.

Parents, providers, and AAC users can:
✅ Meet New Mexico’s PRC-Saltillo AAC consultant
✅ Explore speech-generating devices that turn selections on a screen into spoken words and phrases, giving users a voice for daily communication
✅ Learn about apps like LAMP Words for Life, a vocabulary system that helps users build language and express thoughts through consistent symbol patterns, and TouchChat, a customizable app that transforms a tablet or phone into a powerful communication tool with voices, symbols, and accessible features
✅ Learn about local resources and ask questions

After an injury ended in a disability and job loss, one of our DiverseIT clients decided to return to school and pursue a new career in architectural engineering. However, the powerful software required for classes was more than a typical computer — and their budget — could handle.

Thanks to a generous community donation, DiverseIT refurbished a high-performance Dell workstation and matched it with the perfect recipient. Now, this client can complete coursework at home with ease and move confidently toward a new future.

This story is a reminder of how community support, NMTAP, and technology access can open doors to opportunity.

💻 We are always grateful for computer donations, and currently we have a lot of of people with disabilities waiting for laptops. DiverseIT was happy to be part of Broadband Day at the legislature. We are kicking off a new project with the Office of Broadband Access & Expansion to get computers and training to low-income, rural, and tribal populations around New Mexico.

It was wonderful to share the day with their team and hear their work highlighted at the Capitol. New Mexico is over 90% covered by broadband thanks to their efforts.

We will also be joining them for the Abierta Summit in Las Cruces February 27.
