Prosperity Powder

A cherished tradition for inviting prosperity is to blow cinnamon powder through your front door at the start of each month. You can enhance this ritual by using a blend of dried, powdered cinnamon, cloves, bay, and basil. Combine these herbs in a bowl and recite:

Magic herbs of prosperity, bring luck and wealth this month to me. I call you forth to share your powers. Protect my dwelling, blessed be!

Once the herbs are infused with your intention, take a bill of any denomination and loosely roll it. Scoop some of the herb mixture into this roll, using the bill to strengthen the connection between your spell and the prosperity you seek. Press gently on the bottom to keep the herbs secure. Step outside your front door, lift the rolled bill, and blow the herbs into your home. Breathe in deeply before placing your mouth near the bill to avoid a spicy surprise. Save any leftover mixture for future use.

Renew Your Magic

Each month we have the opportunity to recharge our magic by visualizing the moon as a source of magical energy. Sure, we know it's just a stone in the sky that's lit by the sun, but it represents so much more. The moon is essential for the way life has evolved on Earth—the seasons, the tides; its gravitational pull stabilizes the tilt of our planet's axis. Without the moon, life on Earth would be quite different. But its hold on us symbolically is important, too. Magically, we respond to the moon and its phases. It's a guide and a foundation for inspiration.

Take time this month to work your magic, but also pause to honor the moon and reclaim your place as a practitioner of the Craft of the Wise. Visualize yourself being renewed on this magical night, taking in the moonlight and letting it fill you with energy. Channel it into your magical life. Chant as many times as you like:

Moonlight magic, you are mine. Moonlight magic, I will shine.

Saturday Transforming Spell

In astrology, Saturn is called the "greater malefic," a negative connotation. But Saturday is ruled by Saturn, and Saturday is usually a good day. Ditch pop-culture fear-mongering and use the benefic attributes of Saturn today. Saturn governs organization, structure, and the bones of the body. It supports and rules, provides order, promotes responsibility, and radiates authority.

Need to organize the kitchen? Saturn is orderly and structured. Have relational power imbalances? Saturn helps you stand up for yourself and have good boundaries. Physically feeling weak or small? Saturn helps with posture.

Whatever you need to "rule" today, call on the structure and authority of Saturn. Grasp your middle finger (which in palm reading corresponds with Saturn) and invoke him:

Saturn, great planet of time and measure, be with me in supportive structure. Help me be strong, upright, and clear. Bring good boundaries and organization here.

Mighty Oak Spell

Today is Oak Apple Day, which is tied to the English legend of King Charles II hiding in an oak tree to escape capture and then being able to return to the throne. Some theorize that the image of the oak-leafed "green man" is inspired by his story. To celebrate this day, folks would adorn their bodies and decorate buildings with oak leaves.

The oak tree emerges from a tiny acorn and is a symbol of strength, honor, and wisdom. This connection makes for some powerful magic to tap into. There are many varieties of oak trees in the world, so if you're lucky enough to live by one, take some time to sit by it and acknowledge its presence. Ask permission to collect a leaf or acorn to take with you. Using a fine marker, write on the leaf or acorn the goal you wish to achieve. Place it on your altar for safekeeping and say:

O mighty oak tree, inspire my goal to be like thee, wise and strong for all to see!

Switch Up That Altar

If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, especially in the United States, this week is the unofficial start of summer. Schools will be out soon, outdoor BBQs will start happening, and local festivals will crop up every weekend. The beginning of long days and warm nights is upon us. I like to switch up my altars at this time of year and adorn them for summer.

You might read the following instructions and think, "Hey! This isn't a spell; it's work," and you'd be partially correct. This spell connects your practice, your altars, and whatever you hold as sacred on those altars to the summer, which I associate with joy, warmth, growth, shared meals, and fun. You will need a brush or broom, anointing oil (or clean water), and some summer-related fabrics or objects.

To begin, carefully remove everything from your altar. Use the brush or broom to sweep up any dust, incense ash, dried-up petals, etc. from the altar. Dust or wipe down any item you'll be putting on the altar. Anoint each item with either anointing oil or clean water wherever possible. Adorn the altar with summery items such as yellow fabrics, sunflowers, the Sun card from a tarot deck, or anything that speaks to you of summer.

With Every Step We Take

When we talk about connecting with the earth, we may envision going out into nature and immersing ourselves in the wild places. But for many, that may not be possible and can leave urban and city witches feeling a little left out or disconnected. The power of the earth is ever present and ubiquitous! Every step we take connects us to the rhythm of her heartbeat. This old witch's prayer has a steady marching cadence that is used to bless the witch, the earth, the land they walk upon, and the sacred spaces they create and enter. I like to use this chant as part of a moving meditation during my morning walks, connecting with and blessing my neighborhood, my city, and my territory.

Earth, be hallowed,
Earth, be sweet,
Earth, be blessed
By witch's feet.

Windows to Clarity

At a time when you're feeling confused or have a difficult decision to make, mix up a batch of this window wash for use in a spell for clarity (with the added bonus of getting some housework done).

Put a sprig of fresh rosemary (or other herb of choice) into one cup of white vinegar and one cup of water. Keep in a spray bottle, shaking it before use.

Spray the mixture on a window and use a paper towel or newspaper to wipe it clean. Go over every window in your space, being sure to get all of the streaks. Try to stay present while doing so, noting how the glass goes from cloudy to clear, appreciating the transformation.

When finished, sit in the center of your space and close your eyes. Feel the light flowing in through the clear windows, bringing clarity to your dilemma. Over the next few days, notice how this light is also illuminating the path to resolution.

A Graduation Spell

It's the time of year for high school and college graduations. It's a joyful time, but it's also bittersweet if you have a graduate preparing to leave home and go out into the world. This spell will give you some peace of mind and give your graduate some protection. You'll need a white candle in a secure holder or a heatproof dish, a photo of your graduate, a piece of paper, a pen, and an envelope. Place all of your supplies on your altar. Light the candle. Look at the photo of your graduate. Then write this charm on the paper:

A Blessing for a Graduate

The years have gone by so fast,
Your time to fly has come at last.
You'll have new places to go,
And the seeds of new friendships to sow.
Divine Power, I remember when
I held this child in my arms.
Please keep them safe and free of harm.

Fold the paper and place it in the envelope along with the photo. Place this magical bundle in a secret place. Take it out and read the charm from time to time if you wish. Safely s***f out the candle and use for other magic.
