I had heard about the lack of C-Section recovery assistance before having my kiddos (2 unplanned C-Sections)...
I had seen all of the memes and posts about how much physical therapy is prescribed following a knee surgery vs abdominal surgery...
(3x a week for 6 weeks for knee surgery, zero for abdominal surgery/C-Section)
But it’s one of those things where, until you’re going through it, it’s hard to understand how big the problem really is.
After a C-Section, moms are handed a baby and a pat on the back.
“Good luck! You’ll be a great mom!”
Zero information is provided around how to get out of bed, how to p**p, how to, well, survive.
And two weeks later, you have to climb into a car, drive your fresh wound back to the hospital/doctor’s office, and have a provider, (not necessarily your surgeon even), peer briefly at your incision and let you know you’re “good.”
And then you survive, and figure it’s all normal. It’s just how it is. It’s what all women deal with, and we are socialized to think that’s okay.
As a pelvic floor physical therapist and movement specialist, I spend a large part of every week thinking, learning, and studying movement mechanics and how to restore them when they’ve gone awry.
And it has taken me YEARS, and will take more years, to recover from 2 pregnancies and 2 C-Sections.
Soooooo what about the moms that are not physical therapists? That don’t even know help is out there?
The journey can be long and convoluted, but now you are in the right place. I am here to help.
This week on the blog I have some quick tips on early C-Section recovery.
But no matter where you are in your recovery, whether it’s days or years, there is hope and there is help.
