🌟 Therapy Dog Spotlight: Meet Chip! 🐾💙
From a playful pup in PetSmart’s Doggie Daycare to a dedicated therapy dog, Chip’s journey has been filled with heart, perseverance, and plenty of style (yes, he loves his costumes 👻🎩).

🐶 Chip’s Story
Chip began his training at just 12 weeks old, where his first trainer—who had significant hearing loss—taught him using hand signals. This early training gave Chip a strong foundation and a special talent for nonverbal communication. During Halloween, he’d strut around PetSmart in costumes, charming everyone he met—and that’s when his love of dressing up began. 🎃👑

Then… COVID hit. Training programs paused, services shut down, and Chip’s therapy dog test—originally planned for his first birthday—was delayed. But that didn’t stop this determined pup.

🐾 Bouncing Back & Moving Forward
After moving to Rio Rancho, Chip continued his training—earning his Beginner and Advanced Canine Good Citizenship titles and completing therapy dog training with Sit Means Sit. He officially became a certified therapy dog two years ago, and he's been making hearts smile ever since!

🎒 Chip’s Work
Whether he’s volunteering at the airport, elementary schools, libraries, memory care centers, or comforting hospice patients at CORUS, Chip brings warmth, joy, and a tail-wagging spirit everywhere he goes. He knows when it’s “go time” the second his vest goes on—tail wag activated! 💼💕

🐾 Mentor Mode: Activated
Now, Chip is helping train the newest addition to the team—Daisy Mae, an adorable Bison puppy who's following in his paw-steps. 🐶✨

Let’s hear it for Chip—our costume-loving, hand-signal-trained, people-cheering therapy dog extraordinaire! 💙

🐾💙Meet Jet, Indigo, and Mina—three amazing pups bringing love, comfort, and joy wherever they go, alongside their devoted humans, Angela and Darryl Armstrong. 🐶✨

🐩 Jet
Jet joined the Armstrong family in October 2020 when he was 5 years old, adopted through Paws for Hope in Utah. While meeting the adoption team at a local park, Jet literally jumped into their van—choosing them just as much as they chose him. 🥹 He became a certified therapy dog in 2021 and passed with flying colors—an absolute natural at spreading comfort.

🐕‍🦺 Indigo
Indigo, a gentle giant Great Dane, found his forever home at 13 months old via Watermelon Ranch in Rio Rancho, NM. As his third and final home, Angela and Darryl knew they were a perfect match, having had Great Dane experience with their beloved Thor. Through patience, training, and lots of love, Indigo blossomed into a sweet, calm soul and became certified in July 2023. 🐾💕

🐾 Mina
Sweet Mina was adopted from National Mill Dog Rescue in Peyton, CO, in late 2023. After spotting her online, Angela and Darryl knew she was meant to be part of their family. They drove up, brought her home, and watched her thrive. She completed service dog training in September 2024 and passed her therapy dog certification on August 6, 2024. 💖

👩‍❤️‍👨 Angela & Darryl Armstrong- Handlers
Angela has been working with therapy dogs since 2011, and Darryl since 1996—when he first certified with his Aussie mix, Poncho. Together, they’ve turned their passion into a shared mission of love, healing, and connection. Darryl, a stage 4 non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma survivor and heart transplant recipient, finds therapy dog work healing in its own way: “It keeps me healthy and connected with people.”

🐕✨ Their work with therapy dogs touches lives across all ages—and we’re so grateful for everything they do!

❤️ Let’s give a round of a-paws to Jet, Indigo, Mina, Angela & Darryl for spreading so much light and love in our communities!

From Rescue to Remarkable: Odie’s Journey

Three years ago, Odie found his way into my life as his third home. A coworker mentioned a dog needing rehoming, and without hesitation, my mom and I went to meet him. That day marked the beginning of our journey together.

Odie wasn’t the easiest at first—he was anxious, vocal, and needed a lot of training. With patience, obedience classes, and love, he has transformed into an incredible companion.

After facing my own health challenges, I wanted to give back. That’s when I discovered volunteering with Corus Hospice. For over a year now, Odie and I have been visiting patients, bringing comfort and joy to those who need it most. Seeing the smiles he brings makes every step of our journey worthwhile.

From rescue pup to therapy dog—Odie, you’re making a difference. 💙🐾

💕💕Thank You to all our Corus Hospice Volunteers! 💕💕

Hospice volunteers are an invaluable asset in providing comfort and support to patients and their families during end-of-life care. Their contributions extend beyond medical treatment, offering emotional companionship, respite for caregivers, and a sense of peace and dignity.

During Volunteer Month, I want to take this time to celebrate the profound impact that our hospice volunteers have on the lives of patients and families the encounter. From Companionship and Pet Therapy to Massage Therapy and Haircuts, your selfless service embodies the core principles of hospice care: dignity, compassion, and holistic support.
💕💕We thank you from the bottom of our hearts 💕💕

🐾 A Therapy Dog’s Journey: Meet Boo! 🐾

Did you know therapy dogs are different from service dogs? Unlike service animals, therapy dogs provide comfort and emotional support to many people rather than assisting a specific individual with a disability. While they aren’t granted public access rights under the ADA, they play a vital role in brightening lives in hospitals, assisted living facilities, schools, and beyond!

One of Corus Health’s beloved therapy dogs is Boo—also known as Boo Boo or Baby Boo Boo. Her journey began when her mom, Ava, was grieving the loss of her German Shepherd, Maya. Unsure if she was ready for another dog, Ava found herself searching online and spotted a sweet terrier mix at the shelter. With her ghostly white fur and black spots—just in time for Halloween—Sue became Boo, and a beautiful new chapter began.

Boo quickly showed signs of being the perfect therapy dog: calm, gentle, eager to please, and unbothered by new environments, wheelchairs, or strangers. After training, testing, and earning her certification (including AKC Canine Good Citizen!), Boo and Ava embarked on their mission—bringing joy to those who need it most.

From helping kids gain confidence in reading to providing comfort to hospice patients, Boo knows when she puts on her red Certified Therapy Dog tag, it’s time to work. And the smiles, cuddles, and love she shares make every visit special.

Thank you, Boo & Ava, for making the world a little brighter! ❤️🐶
