Living Your Yoga, Living the Yamas
Yoga is so much more than the poses and what happens on the mat. While the postures may be what first draw us in, yoga is truly a way of living. One that guides how we breathe, how we relate to ourselves, and how we show up in the world around us. This year at Mi Vida Yoga, we’re inviting you to go a little deeper into your yoga practice. Beyond asana, yoga offers an entire framework for living with intention through the Eight Limbs of Yoga: ethical foundations (Yamas), personal observances (Niyamas), posture (Asana), breath (Pranayama), turning inward (Pratyahara), concentration (Dharana), meditation (Dhyana), and ultimately, integration and connection (Samadhi). Each limb supports the others, creating a holistic path that extends far beyond the physical practice.
This month, we’re beginning at the roots with the Yamas. The Yamas are the ethical principles that guide how we interact with the world and one another.
Ahimsa (non-harming), Satya (truthfulness), Asteya (non-stealing), Brahmacharya (moderation), and Aparigraha (non-grasping) invite us to live with compassion, honesty, and integrity in our daily lives. At Mi Vida Yoga, we believe these teachings are meant to be lived, not perfected. Our community is a space where we practice together, support one another, and gently explore what it means to live a yogic life, on the mat and off. Through shared breath, movement, and reflection, we grow not just stronger bodies, but more connected hearts.
