In the early 90s and at the request of Dr. Tony Chan, Dr. Michael Browde (who is now Emeritus at UNM School of Law) counseled a then young Dr. Mamie Chan on becoming a lawyer. Now, nearly 35 years later, we are grateful for the longstanding friendship of the families. Dr. Browde told Dr. Mamie Chan, “I think you made the right choice!” 😊

Dr. Chan and ocularist Andy McDonnell were so excited to be back at Explora to be part of their X-Studio Teen Camp called Code Blue: Exploring Medical Careers. Dr. Chan talked about the profession of optometry and the students played with a phoropter, color vision and stereo tests, prisms and lenses, and for the finale decorating an eyeball cookie to make it look more realistic and then eat it!

She also got to check on the optometry exhibit that she helped design and their family sponsorship plaque. Always a great day when you get to spend it at Explora with fun teens!

We truly enjoyed being invited to East Mountain High School to present to their MESA class all about eyes! Joined by our ocularist, Dr. Chan reviewed optics, played with a phoropter, ocular disease simulator glasses, color vision testing, talked about careers in optometry, and looked at prosthetics. We ended the day by decorating eyeball cookies and eating them! So much fun to work with the amazing kiddos!
