This very powerful and personal story is shared with the authors permission, and the hope that her words, her voice, her willingness to shout her suffering, her refusal to remain silent, will empower others to raise their voices, and be heard. We will be silent no longer! We will drop the bondages of shame that others have tried to cage us with. We will not let this go. We will not allow for the responsibility for s*xual violence to be placed on anyone besides the perpetrator. We will not stand alone. We will not be afraid. We will not lower our heads or extend the length or size of our clothing. We will not give away our power. We will rise, we will fight, and we will prevail. We have been fighting a silent war for generations. One where the enemy is sneaky and cunning and has created an entire culture built on lies and self blame and we are no longer going to fight in the dark, silent and alone. We will no longer be victims, we are survivors. If you are ready to break the chains of silence. If you are ready to stand beside one another and take back our power, our safety, our bodies, minds, and spirits, then I am calling to you to speak up now. To let this brave woman know that she is not alone and she is not to blame. To let everyone know we won't keep quiet any longer and we won't let our sisters be hushed either...not even by well intentioned individuals who were raised to "not talk about it".
