Dr Anita Surana is a classically trained sitarist living in Virginia, US. She has specialised in Cancer Pain relief through Indian Classical Music. ie, her research has lead her to conclusively prove that when exposed to the correct raags at the correct timing, terminally ill cancer patients needed lower doses of pain meds (morphine). This is groundbreaking study in the field of alternate medicine, and is an incredibly important milestone for Sitar as a dying instrument.
Worldwide, only a handful of Sitar players remain, and even fewer of the younger generation opt to specialise in this instrument, taking it closer to extinction. Dr Anita Surana has spent her life trying to promote this wonderful cause and instrument.
