We taught and spoke on gratitude all this week, leading up to today, and as I was leaving the studio, the frigid wind took my breath away, and I looked up and saw this little nest. It made me think, if they can survive today, then so can we all 😆

At the heart of Yoga Shala’s mission is to embrace families and offer every day support to bring balance into our very hectic lives.

I am deeply touched when our members inquire about their kids participating in class with them, the answer, always, “of course!!!”. I feel equally honored when our members reach out and let me know, their own child is a yoga teacher and would love to practice here, maybe even teach.

As was the case in how my path crossed paths with Micah, RYT 200, a recent graduate of a course he completed in Peru. His mom, our beloved Sally had told him all about Yoga Shala and he felt compelled to connect, and I am so glad he did.

We are as different as we are alike and our vision for serving couldn’t be more aligned.

Recognizing yoga as a way of life, service beyond self, Micah will be offering for a limited time, a 90 minute, Bhakti Slow Flow!

Fridays 5-630PM

Beginning with breathing, movement, invitation to chant, accompanied by the harmonium…this offering is complimentary to all, in our effort to always be accessible. Yogis of all levels and ages are welcome.

For assistance in registering, info@yogashala.life or simply sign up at yogashala.life or find us on MINDBODY.

Welcome Micah to our sangha, experience this rich sacred practice of bhakti yoga, all before his adventurous spirit takes him to his next destination ✈️ 🌎 🧘‍♂️ ✨

Steve brings a blend of yoga and mindfulness that helps students slow down and notice each moment as it unfolds. During transitioning in the tech world, he found a new path in teaching, where he encourages movement as a form of living meditation. His classes are grounded, thoughtful, and designed to meet you exactly where you are. Expect an experience that’s as much about inner awareness as it is about physical practice.

Join Steve on the mat for Slow Flow Monday's 8:00 - 9:00 am & Guided Meditations Saturday's 10:45 - 11:15am.

Guided Meditations are a complimentary class, open to all.

A preview of the books to be read during Yoga Shala’s 200 and 300 Hour Teacher Trainings 2026.

In addition to required reading, this selection is thoughtfully put together, and participants will have the option to choose some or all to read.

Our 200 Hour YTT is Trauma Informed, we explore our adversions, afflictions, gaining knowledge of our challenges, why we struggle, understanding how we show up in the world for ourselves and others, and along the way in a supportive tight knit cohort, we find the path towards peace…all while allowing yoga to meet us where we are and offering one step after another to go deeper. Asana takes on a whole new meaning when we know the why and how and then learn to safely hold space to guide others. It is as eye opening as it is heart opening 🤍

For our Advanced 300 Hour YTT reserved for RYT200 Teachers with a minimum of 1 year teaching, we further our knowledge having gained hands on experience and look to draw upon wisdom to illicit curiosity and continued growth for both the teacher and their students. We take a closer look at avidya and kleshas and through thoughtful dailogue, learn to apply the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, weaving philosophies in and out of classes, workshops, and in every day living. Teachers will add a richness and depth to their own teachings whether in studio classes or out and about as they also learn all about the business side of yoga 🤍

Teacher Trainings bring in revenue to studios or online platforms and many businesses churn out one after another after another.

We do things differently at Yoga Shala. We offer 2 trainings a year, each one taking 10 or 12 months to complete. The intention? To foster personal growth, to offer a means to heal or support the healing process, to ignite a spirit of service, a desire to give back…the gifts that yoga gives each one of us, we in turn want to share and hold the space, for you too, to receive the gifts.

I will be holding an info session Nov 14 at 9AM following class to share insight, YTT graduates are welcome to pop in and tell all 😄

Love,
Yoga Shala

Our Yoga Shala community is made up of exceptional human beings, with all sorts of backgrounds, homemakers to lawmakers to make you feel better doctors, from womens health, pyschologists, physical therapists, and an outstanding handstanding chiropractor 😄

While yoga can serve as a healing modality, we teachers aren’t doctors (some are 😉) and that can be intimidating. The voices of my teachers is a constant hum…that reverberates…”don’t bullsh*t” and “teach what you know”. So we don’t and we do. Anything outside of our scope, we lean on the professionals.

Today we were reminded once again of our interconnectedness, within ourselves, with each other, and even across different means to practice wellness. Through an eye opening informal hands on get together, the importance of the work we get to do was reinforced, attitudes adjusted, mine especially 😆, and “it takes a village” our new mantra 🙌🏽 yoga can get you breathing and down to the root sometimes, beyond the mat, the care of experts in various fields rounds out a holistic approach.

PS, the session made complete by filling our bellies with homemade sour dough, still oven warm, by doc’s wifey 😋 thank you 🙏🏽

Curious? Wonderful 😌 ✨

Called on some Panthers to assist in transporting 35 winter coats generously donated by our Yoga Shala community! Thank you 🙏🏽 😌

The need is huge and there is still time to drop off not only winter coats, but clothing in general.

Dulles South is hosting a Free Clothing event this weekend with over 200 families signed up and expecting closer to 1,000 showing up.

Please visit for details: https://dullescloset.org/

Every little bit helps, right here, in our town, our fellow friends and neighbors, may we do what we can to meet their needs 🙏🏽💕

Inclusive and accessible are the foundational principles for how we support our community. Perhaps that is why our youngest member, who is only 6 years of age to our oldest member so far, who is 81 years of age!! can come together in practice ☺️

No matter your background or circumstances, we find a way to make our studio available.

One of the most meaningful ways is through complimentary offerings.

Join us Saturdays at 10:45-11:15 AM for Community Meditation, complimentary to all.

Meditation is lead by Steve RYT 200 and MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) Facilitator.

Registration encouraged and so is simply showing up.

You are welcome to invite friends and family or make this a practice all of your own.

Register at yogashala.life or mindbody 🙏🏽💕

Our first Book Club meeting had a wonderful response and a lot of participation! We had a great turnout for the meeting and those who were not able to make it, still read the book, and we were all abuzz chatting about it days later!

Our next book will be:
Already Toast written by Kate Washington

The inspiration? Our community, which is made up of many caregivers. Those currently in the important role and those who have been in the role. Caring for special needs children, spouses, elderly parents with and without illnesses, sometimes, terminal, within their own families as well as our friends in caregiving careers. The consensus? It takes a toll and the resources and support, limited. The nature of caregiving can be so unique and leave one feeling really alone, who to talk to when it seems, no one else is going through the same thing and can relate?

In my position I get to hear you, see you, and connect you. You indeed are not alone, you are amongst others, taking care of your loved ones and beyond, and through the platform of a meaningful book club, we can come together once again, to share stories, lean on one another, and most importantly, find joy, even in the toughest days of our lives.

Read it or not, join us in the conversation:

December 3rd 5:00-6:00PM

This event is complimentary to all, registration encouraged for the sake of snacks 😋
