Back to School Advice from a Former Elementary Teacher + Mama of 4 🎒🍎
Sharing this wisdom from my sweet friend, Ali, who’s been on both sides of the classroom—and has four kids of her own. If you’ve got a little one starting kindergarten or heading back to school, these words are gold!
💪🏼INDEPENDENCE – Kindergarten readiness is ALL about independence. NOT academic readiness. Help your child learn to unzip their backpack and take out their lunch. Teach them to tie their shoes, go to the bathroom on their own, open all the items in their lunch. Teach them how to introduce themselves to new friends and ask questions if they need help. They will learn their letters in Kinder. That’s the point!
🤓PREPARE – Talk through what their day will look like, and reassure them you will be there to pick them up when school is over.
🫶🏼QUICK GOODBYES – Quick goodbyes help with dry eyes. Keep a positive attitude and keep things exciting. Give your kid a quick squeeze, tell them you love them, and are so proud of them. Keep it short and sweet.
😴SLEEP AND REST – Go to bed early and wake up early. Give yourself a peaceful morning. That comes with lots of sleep.
❤️This is the first time we are practicing letting go as parents and it’s hard. There’s nothing that can prepare you to send your kid off to school all day, but it’s the first step in letting them spread their wings and find themselves. 🥹💛
