Midwife Ashley -

Yesterday was my birthday and Mother's Day. I know some people wouldn't like spending "their" day celebrating other people, but who doesn't like to celebrate other amazing people?

Since it was Mother's Day, we were going to leave the focus on all mothers and skip a birthday post, but I had to share this sweet letter with you.

I get quite a few Happy Birthdays from friends and family (shout out to Facebook for reminding us of everyone's birthdays), but the one above took the cake. I don't always receive compliments well, but these words of affirmation made me cry.

This job can be hard and suck the life out of you at times. Knowing I'm making a positive impact on others makes all the sleepless nights and days away from my family worth it.

Thank you, every single one of you, for letting me be a small part of your story.

The photo above is me with my little birthday buddy last year! Getting to share the day with a little one I watched grow in his mama's tummy is truly a great birthday day.

Motherhood is one of the most beautiful, demanding, selfless journeys a person can walk through.

Mothers are strong in ways the world often never sees—through sleepless nights, endless giving, carrying the mental load, comforting little hearts while sometimes hiding their own exhaustion. There are no clock-outs, no lunch breaks, no “off” days. And yet somehow, mothers continue showing up with love, patience, resilience, and grace.

To the mothers rocking babies in the middle of the night, wiping tears, making meals, folding laundry, driving to practice, kissing scraped knees, teaching, nurturing, sacrificing, and loving so deeply every single day—you are incredible.

Your strength is quiet but powerful.
Your love shapes generations.
Your presence is a gift.

And while motherhood can be exhausting, overwhelming, and messy… the joy, connection, and love woven into it all are truly priceless.

We see you. We honor you. And we are endlessly grateful for the privilege of caring for so many amazing mothers in our community.

Today, we celebrate a profession rooted in wisdom, service, advocacy, and deep trust in women and birth. What an incredible honor it is to serve mothers, babies, and families during some of life’s most transformative moments.

We are so grateful to walk alongside women through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and the transition into motherhood. This work is sacred. It is emotional, humbling, exhausting, beautiful, and deeply meaningful.

Today, we also honor the generations of midwives who came before us—those who protected birth, preserved knowledge, advocated for women, and paved the way for the work we are privileged to do today. Their legacy continues to shape the care families receive now and for generations to come.
And to the future midwives who will come after us: may you continue this work with courage, compassion, wisdom, and respect for the strength of women and physiologic birth.

To our clients, families, and community—thank you for trusting us, supporting local midwifery care, and allowing us to be part of your stories. We are endlessly grateful to serve this community we love so much.

The roots of midwifery run deep—thousands of years of caring for mothers with holistic, preventative care.

We can honor ancestral birth wisdom and understand modern medicine. Midwives can be trained in both worlds.

We carry forward the wisdom of generations—nutrition, movement, herbs, and preventative care—while also understanding modern research, medications, and when they’re needed.

Both matter. Both help keep birth safer.

Midwifery has always been about wisdom and discernment, which includes when to use modern medicine.

We are thankful that we live in a time where both modes of treatment are accessible.

Here at Fort Worth Midwifery, we start with what our ancestors knew. Preventative care is the best foundation. Most of the time, it's all that's needed. If we do need to utilize modern medications, we do so with gratitude because when we need it, it can be the difference between a safe, healthy mom and baby and a horrible situation.

Due to winter weather, our office will be closed this Monday.

Our phone will still be available for non-emergencies from 9am–5pm.

As always, we are available 24/7 by phone for emergencies or if you are in labor.

We will be rescheduling all Monday appointments and will be watching the forecast for the rest of the week.

2025 was a truly beautiful year at Fort Worth Midwifery. It held both deep challenges and incredible moments of joy. We walked alongside families through some very hard situations, and we also celebrated powerful births, growing families, and meaningful milestones that reminded us why we do this work.

It is an honor to support women through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with individualized, evidence-based, and heart-centered care. Every family, every birth, and every story matters to us.

This year reminded us that birth work is sacred. It’s emotional, raw, joyful, and sometimes heavy—but always meaningful. We are endlessly grateful to the families who trusted us with their care and invited us into some of the most intimate moments of their lives.

Here’s to growth, reflection, resilience, and continuing to serve our community with compassion in the year ahead.

Mama announced her pregnancy on a baseball, a symbol of something deeply meaningful to their family. So it was only fitting that baby’s footprint went right onto that same ball—a perfect way to celebrate how far this journey has come. Truly a treasure.

During postpartum visits, we make footprint keepsake cards, and families often bring their own meaningful items for us to personalize as well.
