When Megan Buccholz’s smartwatch alerted her that she was in atrial fibrillation (AFib), she was sure it was a mistake. Her heart rate was high at around 180, but she felt fine. Fortunately, she got checked out anyway. The watch was right.

Sometimes people with AFib have no symptoms and their condition is only detected by a medical exam. Others may experience symptoms including fatigue, a rapid and irregular heartbeat, fluttering or thumping in the chest, weakness or shortness of breath. Like to stay up late and sleep in on the weekends? It might be affecting your blood pressure. A new study suggests sticking to a regular bedtime might be just as important as getting enough sleep each night.

It's not just how long people sleep, but how well they stick to a regular sleep schedule that affects their hypertension risk, new research suggests.
