Proud of my 25 years of lifeguarding. These instructors are the best of the best! This course is always the one I pray about 😂 it’s not for the weak. 🏊🏼

The City Pool hosted its annual Lifeguard Certification and Lifeguard Recertification classes last week. These training classes included not only ACPR lifeguards, but also lifeguards from Russell Lands, Children’s Harbor, Camp Alamisco, and Tallassee Parks & Recreation. We only managed to get 1 picture this week while the class was practicing a search and recovery drill, but think it’s one that speaks volumes as we enter the summer season!
For those who may not know, the lifeguard certification process is both physically demanding and mentally exhausting. Between long training hours, repeated challenging water rescues, & CPR training night, these candidates are pushed repeatedly throughout the entire week. Add in some of the coldest temperatures we can remember, and it definitely made for a tough class! We’re happy to report the lifeguard candidates never complained once… The instructors, however, are still talking about it😂
A huge thank you goes out to the Lifeguard Instructors—Sammy Teel, Megan Blake, and Barbara Sokol—for helping make this class a success each year. Water safety is a core value for each of these instructors, who truly enjoy sharing their knowledge and training with every lifeguard candidate they work with.
We are so proud of each lifeguard candidate for completing the course, and appreciate their commitment to keeping our swimmers safe this summer👏🏼🛟
Be sure to come see our ACPR lifeguards in action this summer! The City Pool opens May 26 and Wyckoff Pool opens May 27. We’re looking forward to another great summer at the pool😎☀️🏊♀️
