“The National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) and its Council on Certification have updated the credential name of CTR, Certified Tumor Registrar, to ODS, Oncology Data Specialist. The new name better aligns with the evolving scope of practice of cancer registrars and current professional practice terminology.”

Every year, over 5 million people in the United States alone, are diagnosed with Skin Cancer making it America’s most common cancer.

On the other hand, Skin Cancer is one of the most preventable cancers and we highly encourage you to learn all of the ways you can protect your skin.

➡️Avoid tanning including UV tanning beds
➡️Examine your skin head to toe every month and add regular check ups to your yearly routine. This is especially important if you have a family history of skin cancer
➡️Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going outside and reapply every 2 hours

Happy National Cancer Registrars Week!

The work that cancer registrars provide answers these questions! Cancer registrars are data information specialists that capture a complete history, diagnosis, treatment, and health status for every cancer patient in the U.S. This curated data provides essential information to researchers, healthcare providers, and public health officials to better monitor and advance cancer treatments, conduct research, and improve cancer prevention and screening programs. They work at hospitals, medical facilities, and central registries and the information they collect is reported, by law, to the state and federal government, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Cancer Institute.”
