It's that time of year!

Are you ready to send nominations in to celebrate our Alexandria City residents who have lived a century or longer? We are excited to have nominees from our center be participating, and look forward to celebrating them at the September 9th event.

To nominate local seniors who will be 100 or older this year, you can fill out the application here: https://www.alexandriava.gov/Aging

The deadline for applications is Tuesday, August 12th. We can't wait to see who wins the !

Thank you to our Woodbine July Meals on Wheels volunteers Isatu Deen, LPN, Utilization Review Case Manager and Richard Oommen, Director of Human Resources and Employee Engagement. They are joined by Sedella Brooks Meals on Wheels volunteer coordinator and Senior Services of Alexandria Director of Nutrition Programs, Marshall Hespe.

Sedella and Marshal are instrumental in helping Woodbine Rehabilitation offer the Caring Connection program. Woodbine is proud to partner with Senior Services of Alexandria to provide Meals on Wheels, and a well-check by Senior Services staff for one week to any Alexandria City resident returning home after a Woodbine Rehabilitation stay to ensure a safe return to home and continued recovery!

Katie Jennings, Associate Director of Allied Health Programs at Northern Virginia Community College and Steven Partridge, VP for Strategy, Research and Workforce Innovation at NOVA; were joined by Donna Shaw, Regional Director of Operations, to celebrate the Northern Virginia Community College Licensed Workforce School of Practical Nursing Class of 2025 Graduation and Pinning ceremony.

Donna addressed the students, who completed part of their clinical studies at Woodbine Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center and are supported in part by a generous donation from Woodbine leading to the creation of the program. Donna commended the students for their hard work and their choice to become caregivers and to become a part of people's lives to bring comfort at what at times may be their most challenging circumstances.

The moving ceremony included family members pinning the students while letters of thanks were read and concluded with the traditional lighting of lamps and the students reciting The Nightengale Pledge. We welcome these new healthcare professionals and congratulate them on the successful completion of their nursing program!
