Ever heard of Junk Journaling? One of our LPC clinicians, Nicole (also art therapist extraordinaire 🖼️ 🎨) tells us all about her group this summer.
“Hi - Nicole here! Over the summer, I ran a middle school girls process group with my co-leader, Natalie. This group was centered around junk journaling - my new favorite way to express myself and document recent happenings in my life. Each of the girls (including Natalie and myself) brought in what some may perceive as “junk” to include in our journals from our lives that week. We brought things like receipts, order stickers from coffee shops, and printed pictures. During group, we processed our week, explored anxiety about the upcoming transition to middle school, and practiced social skills in a fun, relaxing environment. We used our group room and spread out every kind of art supply you can think of - and you can be sure there was excessive use of glitter glue and silly stickers. It was so fun to see how creative everyone got with what they’d bring in and how they’d style it on each spread! If you’re looking for your own junk journal inspiration, I recommend searching it on Instagram and Pinterest.”
