✨ Caregiver Corner ✨

As a caregiver, the idea of a full workout can feel completely out of reach. But what if relieving stress wasn't about finding an extra hour, but about finding 30 seconds?

Physical movement is a powerful way to release the tension that builds up in your body and mind. Even the smallest, gentlest motions can signal to your nervous system that it's okay to relax.

When you feel stress tightening your shoulders, try one of these simple movements:

Gentle Neck Tilts: Slowly tilt your head from side to side, as if trying to touch your ear to your shoulder. Hold for 15 seconds on each side.

Shoulder Rolls: Inhale and lift your shoulders up towards your ears, then exhale and roll them back and down. Repeat 5 times.

Reach for the Sky: While seated or standing, take a deep breath in and stretch your arms high above your head. As you exhale, slowly lower them down.

Wrist & Ankle Circles: While sitting, gently rotate your wrists and ankles one at a time. This simple act can help release pent-up energy.

You don’t need a gym or a yoga mat. Just take a moment, right where you are, to connect with your body. It's a small act of kindness to yourself on a long journey. You deserve it. 💙

✨Memorable Moment Monday✨

There are some moments in hospice care that are forever etched onto our hearts. They aren't always about medicine or treatment plans; they are about profound, shared humanity.

For parents of our pediatric patients, the journey can feel incredibly lonely. They look to us not just for care, but for guidance, for peace, for a hand to hold. It’s in the quiet, tender acts of service that we often find our deepest purpose.

Our Nurse, Home Health Aide, and Social Worker saw a mother who just needed a moment to breathe. Together, they lovingly gave her precious baby a bath in the sink. It was a simple act, performed with the utmost delicacy and care—three sets of hands working as one to provide comfort.

What they didn't know was that this simple, beautiful bath would be the last one.

These are the moments of hospice. They are real, they are raw, and they are filled with a bittersweet beauty. To be invited into a family's life at such a sacred time, to offer even the smallest comfort, is not a job. It is a profound blessing. 💙

✨ Caregiver Corner ✨

To our incredible caregivers in Alexandria: In the midst of your selfless work, remember to nurture your own well-being. Engaging in art, in any form, can be a powerful tool to combat stress and prevent burnout.

You don't need to be a professional artist! Simple activities like coloring, doodling, listening to music, writing, or even arranging flowers can offer a creative outlet and a mental escape. Even just 15-20 minutes of focusing on something creative can lower stress hormones and boost your mood.

Consider these simple art-based activities:
🎨 Keep an adult coloring book and some colored pencils handy for a quick mindful break.
✍️ Start a journal – write down your thoughts and feelings without judgment.
🎶 Create a playlist of your favorite calming music to listen to during quiet moments.
💐 Bring some local flowers home from the Alexandria Farmers Market and arrange them – the process can be surprisingly therapeutic.

Remember, this isn't about creating a masterpiece; it's about finding a moment of joy and a healthy way to process your emotions. What small creative activity helps you de-stress? Share your ideas in the comments – you might inspire another caregiver!

❤️Memorable Moment Monday❤️

Hospice care is about ensuring the best possible quality of life, wherever a person calls home. Sometimes, that means finding a new home where they can truly thrive.

We recently had the privilege of supporting a patient who was struggling with depression and deep isolation. Our team worked tirelessly to help her find a new home in a local nursing facility where she could have more support and a community around her. The change has been incredible to witness.

During a recent visit, a team member asked her, "What is your goal?"

She responded, To live my life to the fullest.”

That would not have been her answer when she was living at her old house. Now, she is, in her own words, "living her best life." She has made new friends, loves the food, and calls her new residence "the blessed place she could be."

This beautiful transformation is a powerful reminder that a change in environment isn't an ending, but a new beginning. It’s a wonderful example of how the right resources can open up a new chapter of friendship, happiness, and community.

A special thank you to our team members, Lauren Williams, RN Case Manager and Tim Foreman, Social Worker ,who did the heavy lifting to coordinate this move and make this new chapter possible. Seeing this patient flourish is why we do what we do.

Welcome to our weekly community spotlight! At Heart of Hospice, we believe Central Louisiana is stronger when we support one another. Today, we are thrilled to shine a light on an incredible local organization making a real difference.

This week, we're celebrating: Cenla Playdates + Mom Breaks! We spoke with founder, Mattie Crump.

❤️ Their Mission: They say it takes a village…well what if you don’t have one? Come join ours! We get together for Playdates + Mom Breaks to help build the village and support moms in Cenla. Don’t walk the motherhood journey alone!
🤝 Who They Serve: Any mom - moms-to-be, moms that have experienced loss, moms who have lost their mom, moms that just need a village! All moms, at any age, are welcome to the village.
💡 Why We Admire Them: Cenla Playdates + Mom Breaks has created a space for moms to feel safe, secure, and confident in bringing their little ones to playdates by providing details of the playdate such as: "where is parking? is there a bathroom?", the kinds of things that can ease a mom's anxiety! On the other side, they have also created a space for moms to get a break and just be with other moms and enjoy coffee or crafts.

How You Can Help: Spread the word! Like them on Facebook!

✨ Caregiver Corner ✨

How many times has a friend asked, "What can I do to help?" And how many times have you answered, "I don't know," because you're too overwhelmed to even think of a task?

Let's try a new approach. Before someone asks, think of one or two small, concrete things that would genuinely help.

Examples:
• "Could you drop off a coffee?"
• "Could you water the plants?"
• "Could you take out the trash?"

Allowing people to help doesn't make you a burden. It allows them to show their love and support in a practical way. It’s a gift you give to them, too.

"We’re all just walking each other home." - Ram Dass

This , we want to share something a little different. It’s a glimpse into the profound reality of hospice care, through the powerful words of our social worker, Tim Foreman, LCSW, after a particularly difficult day.

Tim wrote:

"Sometimes there is nothing we can do. We are powerless to resolve it and the only thing we can do is sit with it... to sit with that discomfort long enough to watch it change into something beautiful... leaving us raw and allowing us to firmly adhere to love itself.

I arrived just before noon... In the room with a dying man, disheveled and panicking. The entire room was anxiety and resistance. Oxygen tubing tangled around extension cords and sheets balled up at the foot of the bed. Before I touched anything, I made phone calls to my nurse and aide to come and help me alleviate the tension.

My team arrived... All of us working in concert to bring order to chaos, like the hands and feet of God softly bringing acceptance into the room. And within minutes you could feel the peace returning...

We poured out into the gravel driveway... each of us took turns, my nurse explaining his medical needs, my aide explaining his physical needs, and me the support he would need. We all stood there woven together like a warm blanket, doing all that we could do when there is nothing any of us could really do. Pouring out acceptance on suffering and finding the purest expressions of love day after day... And all of this is the job, this is hospice care."

Tim’s words capture the raw emotion, the teamwork, and the deep compassion that is the fabric of hospice. It’s about sitting in the difficult moments, bringing order to chaos, supporting families through the unknown, and then carrying that experience on to the next person who needs us.

Thank you, Tim, for sharing your heart and reminding us what hospice is truly about. You and our entire team are our Hospice Heroes.
