🎖️United States Veterans Resource Event 🩺

This past Saturday, we had the honor of participating in the 2nd Annual Service Members, Veterans, & Family “RESOURCE R.O.D.E.O.” — an event organized by Central Louisiana Veteran Organizations to connect our U.S. Veterans & their families with vital resources & support systems. 💙

One of the highlights of the day was visiting with Mr. Gilmer Bennett and his wife, who met while serving in the U.S. military in Germany. Mr. Bennett is not only a proud United States Veteran, but also a respected member of the Talimali Band of the Apalachee Indians of Louisiana.

Dr. Jones — himself a U.S. Veteran — is deeply committed to improving healthcare access for both U.S. Veterans and our Native American communities. He understands the unique challenges these groups face, especially when it comes to managing chronic conditions like Type 2 Diabetes, which disproportionately affects Native Americans here in Louisiana and across the nation.

Events like this aren’t just about handing out brochures — they’re about building relationships, recognizing the service and sacrifice of our heroes, and taking action to close healthcare gaps that still exist.

🎥 Watch the video to meet Mr. and Mrs. Bennett and hear a little of their incredible story.

REMOTE PATIENT MONITORING: REAL CARE. REAL CONVERSATIONS. REAL RESULTS.

❤️At Louisiana Cardiovascular & Thoracic Institute, our Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) Program allows us to stay closely connected to our patients — even from a distance.

🖥️Behind the scenes, our DEDICATED CASE MANAGERS monitor real-time blood pressure data, track trends, and identify potential issues early — so treatment plans can be adjusted without the need for frequent office visits.

💡 WHY IT MATTERS:

🩺HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE is known as the “SILENT KILLER” because it often has no symptoms but can lead to serious heart complications if left unmanaged. That’s why we pair compassionate care with smart technology to help improve outcomes, reduce hospital admissions, and keep patients actively engaged in their own health.

❤️Check out the American Heart Association’s Blood Pressure Chart to see where your numbers stand — and why staying in range is so important.

🌞 TUESDAY TIP – BEAT THE HEAT!🌞

Summer heat can be risky for people with diabetes, PAD, or heart disease — but a few smart habits can keep you safe.

Here’s what to remember when temperatures rise:

💧 Stay Hydrated
Water is your best friend! Dehydration can spike blood sugar and strain your heart. Avoid alcohol and sugary drinks.

👟 Protect Your Feet
Reduced circulation in PAD or diabetes means small foot problems can turn serious fast.
✔️ Check your feet daily
✔️ Wear breathable, protective shoes
✔️ Never walk barefoot outdoors

💊 Take Medications as Directed
Don’t skip doses — especially if you’re feeling tired or overheated.

🕶️ Avoid Peak Heat Hours
Stay indoors between 10 AM and 4 PM. If you must go out, wear light clothing, a hat, and sunscreen.

📞 Feeling dizzy, weak, or swollen? Questions or concerns? We’re here for you: (318) 442-0106
