“The value of Medicaid services for older adults, people with disabilities, children with complex conditions, and other people who require support is immeasurable and should not be undervalued.” -Jennifer Sheets, CEO of the Alliance

In an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal, Jennifer Sheets explores why policymakers should adopt targeted, risk-based approaches that focus resources on known problem areas within Medicaid without punishing compliant providers or obstructing access to care. 05/21/2026

Today, the U.S. House Committee on Ways & Means advanced, on a bipartisan vote, the Protecting Seniors and Stopping Fraudsters Act, H.R. 8883, introduced by Congresswoman Van Duyne. The Alliance supports and endorses this legislation, which addresses fraud in the hospice and home health space by tightening enrollment and survey oversight, raising penalties for quality-reporting failures, improving accreditation, and providing beneficiary protections.

While this legislation is a step in the right direction, more must be done to reduce the access to care burden created by a national home health and hospice moratorium. The Alliance looks forward to continuing to work with lawmakers to protect and safeguard patients and caregivers, while combatting fraud, waste, and abuse.

Many provisions in this legislation were included in the Alliance’s previous recommendations to CMS. Learn more: https://allianceforcareathome.org/advocacy/program-integrity/
