Dear Clients and Friends,

Autumn has arrived in Old Town Alexandria, and I couldn’t be happier—crisp air, colorful leaves, and cozy fires are all around us. To celebrate the season, I’ve chosen a special aromatherapy blend for September: juniper berry and clove bud.

✨ Juniper Berry – Known for centuries as a cleansing and protective plant, juniper supports relaxation, clarity, and even helps soothe skin irritations.

✨ Clove Bud – Warm, sweet, and spicy, clove is a powerhouse. It eases stress, calms nausea, relieves pain, and even protects against microbes.

Together, they create a cozy, restorative aroma that feels like the essence of fall. This month, you’ll enjoy the blend in the diffuser and in the warm eye cover during your massage—just the right touch of seasonal magic.

I can’t wait to welcome you in and share this beautiful autumn ritual with you. Check out my blog to learn more: https://www.mandaminemassage.com/s/stories/aromatherapy-massage-series-september-and-juniper-berry-and-clove-bud

Dear clients and friends:

As you all know, I love keeping up with the latest research on the many ways that massage therapy can make life better for us all - and gratefully, the research is not only ongoing, but always shows yet more promise in terms of how massage therapy aids in healing and optimal health.

I thought I’d take a look at the latest findings, and as always, found some fabulous new information, this time on anxiety relief and massage therapy.

The latest research in massage therapy in 2025 shows the power of massage therapy to offer anxiety relief, with a 2024 systematic review showing significant reductions in anxiety levels from massage.

Dear friends and clients:

As you all know, I love educating my clients and friends about the many ways in which massage therapy makes a difference in our daily lives. It’s honestly so gratifying to see there are no aspects of our physical, mental, and emotional bodies that can’t potentially be aided, healed, or strengthened through massage. That’s why I believe massage therapy should be part of anyone’s wellness routine. It is investing in feeling your best!

For fun and to make my point, I thought I’d pull some part of the body out of my hat and talk about how that part can benefit from massage therapy. The first random thing that came to mind is the eye. So let’s get to it!

How does massage therapy benefit the eyes?

Dear friends and clients:

It’s August, which, historically here in Old Town Alexandria, is sticky and hot, but it also means September and autumn are just around the corner. I love the word “AUGUST”, which means majestic, and that got me wondering what spiritual significance the month of August might have. As it turns out, it’s a month rich with spiritual symbolism and is considered a time of transition, regeneration, and harvest. It’s a time for looking forward and backward, both a time of preparation for the autumnal changes, and a time of reflection on what the year has brought so far. It’s the perfect time to release what no longer serves us, and embrace what leads us towards our own best paths.

All that being said, it’s lovely to know there are some entertaining and engaging events happening around Old Town that are sure to help you move in the positive direction mentioned above. Dear clients and friends:

Well, we’re really in the thick of summer, aren’t we!? It’s been quite a heatwave here in Old Town, Alexandria, and we’re all looking for ways to cool off! I’m happy to say that through it all, our studio at Mandamine Massage Therapy has been comfortable, and folks are happy to take some time out of the heat for healing and wellness, but what about the rest of the week? It was that train of thought that made me write this blog about places in and around Old Town Alexandria to cool off. You might know a few, but maybe there are some that you hadn’t thought of!

Dear client and friends:

Summer is full of activity and sports, both outside when it’s gorgeous, and inside when the weather reaches the 90s and beyond. All that means potential injury, and so this week I thought I’d talk about massage therapy and the benefits it can offer folks who find themselves with tendonitis. Tendonitis is the inflammation, irritation or swelling of a tendon. Tendons are the thick, fibrous cords attaching the muscles to bones, and the most common areas to be affected are elbows, wrists, knees and heels, although tendonitis can flair up around the area of any tendon. Those who have had it know the pain can be dull or sharp, and it definitely gets in the way of happy days going about a “best life”.

Well, of course, massage therapy is here, like our beloved Superman, currently at the cineplex, to save the day!

Dear clients and friends,

Here we are in July, and I hope everyone is enjoying the weather, the vacations, balmy nights, and hopefully the slower, mellower pace of summer. As we begin a new month, it’s time again for me to highlight the essential oils I use in my practice that I believe you might find beneficial. I waited until we were DEEP into the heat of summer to share this one. It is called ENDLESS SUMMER: Sunshine Blend.

In this case, the essential oil blend really lives up to its name! To some, it smells like flowers, to others it evokes the forest, or the beach at midday, and still other folks are reminded of biting into a juicy, ripe fruit. You’ll have to see what it evokes for you, because it’s all those things. Still, while the way it smells is wonderful, the Endless Summer blend is also working in the background to help create an uplifting environment, calm the spirit, and heal in ways you won’t know until you realize “hey! I feel better!”

Head over to my blog where I break it down and go through some of the key ingredients and share their properties. There are 16 in total, all working together in this special blend!

Dear clients and friends:

As you all can feel we going through a heatwave! In fact, this “heat dome” is impacting the entire central and eastern part of the United States! We’ll get through it, of course, by limiting our time outdoors and not doing any exercise that exacerbates how our bodies are affected by the heat. This heat wave, though, made me think of something maybe you all don’t know about, and that’s something called “heat dysregulation”. That’s a term that refers to impaired thermoregulation, or a body’s inability to maintain a consistent internal temperature.

Heat dysregulation can be caused by all sorts of issues, including menopause, various neurological conditions, and taking medications that include antidepressants, antibiotics, and antihistamines. Extreme weather, like we’re experiencing now, can also play a role.

Right about now is the time for me to give you the good news, which you might have already guessed. Massage therapy can significantly mitigate heat dysregulation! Now, you’d think that when a body is overheating, the last thing that makes sense is being massaged, but you’d be wrong! The body’s temperature regulation is controlled by the autonomic nervous system, and massage therapy has many ways to positively impact the nervous system.

Dear clients and friends,

Every year when the summer solstice comes up, it brings me such a sense of joy. It means the flowers are in full bloom, there’s a sense of celebration all around, and so many events are happening to remind us of the power of summer and of light.

The summer solstice is the longest day of the year, so it’s a time to consider and embrace themes of light, abundance, healing, and new beginnings. The sun has so much power and life-giving energy, and that power is within each and every one of us. As to how it relates to massage therapy, I always feel like this time is a great time to lean into healing and wellness, knowing we have the power to be the best we can be!

At the same time, I also want to mention all the wonderful celebrations around Alexandria Pride! It’s the 8th annual event, and happens on Saturday, June 28th from 3-6 pm at City Hall and Market Square, just down from Mandamine Massage of Old Town Alexandria.

Dear clients and friends:

As June continues and we are surrounded by flowers, warm celebrations, and outdoor togetherness, I thought I’d consider the very timely subject of prenatal massage. We’re heading into the busiest birth months, which are from July through October, and that means lots of mammas-to-be are heading into their third trimester. There are so many benefits of massage therapy for pregnant women, I wanted to talk about them here, and talk specifically about the newest research about efficacy.
