🍽️ The most recent data from the Association of American Medical Colleges says that MDs/DOs get an average of 19.6 total hours of nutrition education throughout their 4 years of medical school, however this ranges from 0-70 hours depending on the program.⁠
⁠
🥗 Licensed naturopathic doctors get from 100-220 hours of nutrition education. This includes not only clinical nutrition knowledge, but also drug-nutrient interactions. ⁠
⁠
🌺 There is no standard for MDs/DOs to learn botanical medicine or how to identify drug-herb interactions. While some medical schools may provide some context via elective courses, this is not required. This is especially important with increasing numbers of patients resorting to natural health products in conjunction with their conventional medical treatment.⁠
⁠
🌿 But what about functional medicine doctors? Functional medicine is not considered a standalone area of medicine. These are practitioners who obtain an additional online certification, while NDs have this education built into their curriculum with in-residence clinical supervision.⁠

I want to be clear. For 20 years I have been telling anyone who would listen, the private insurance is breaking medicine.

And now, 20 years after I sounded the alarm, insurance has won so hard, that every doctor is finally paying attention. And now most doctors are saying what I’ve been saying for 20 years … finally.

And it’s too late.

The system can’t be reformed. It can’t be fixed. Buy it can be rebuilt with universal health insurance. It will expand services, reduce costs, and cover everyone. And it will
Bury private insurance who are useless and dangerous middle men.

Anyone from a trauma background will default to over explaining because they learned as a child to try to make excuses in order to protect themselves.

You don’t need to as an adult (ok - some have to because they are still being traumatized) . You are safe here.

We are closed for our annual retreat from Wednesday, August 13th, and reopening on Tuesday, August 19th.

This annual event provides our doctors and staff with an opportunity to rest and recharge, so they return bright and ready to work with our patients on their healing journeys.

We highly encourage patients to take some time, in any way they can, to be gentle and allow their bodies time to recover.

This year, we are going up to the North Shore of Lake Superior to Grand Marais. And, of course, our clinic therapy dog, Simon, will be joining us to ensure we don't get into any trouble.

We are seeking a new front-end administrative assistant for a natural health medical practice.

We are looking for the following qualifications:
• Experience with QuickBooks, desktop preferred. A basic understanding of billing is preferred.
• Comfortable with answering phones and helping our doctors communicate with patients.
• Book follow-up appointments. Manage doctor’s schedules.
• Assist with the fulfillment of patient requests for products and equipment.
• A strong attention to detail
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Must have the ability to maintain a professional attitude with patients.
• Ability and interest in learning basic medical procedures, including vitals, to assist in patient care as needed.
• Phlebotomy is preferred but not needed.

This position is part-time with a possibility of full-time, depending on your needs and qualifications. Training provided. Hours include two 8-hour shifts and two 4-hour shifts per week to start with more available for the right candidate. No weekends.

Salary is $18 to start, with an increase to $20 upon completion of training. Yearly COLA thereafter. PTO, benefits, and salary are dependent upon the candidate.

Seeking new health care practitioners.

Edgewater Natural Family Medicine has been a leading alternative and natural health center in the St. Cloud area since 2004. We are currently seeking more practitioners to join our practice.

You can become part of the practice or rent space from us. Option to have us handle all aspects of your business, including scheduling, patient reminders, front-end staff, etc., so you can focus on caring for your patients while also getting paid. Straight rent options are also available.

We currently have two doctors who excel at supporting other practitioners, a Chinese medicine expert retiring in about a year, a thermography technician, and affiliations with multiple clinics. We want to expand by adding another doctor who wants to focus on hydrotherapy. We are actively searching for others to share our passion and mission of alternative and complementary excellence.

We can accommodate massage, herbalists, psychology, and nurse practitioners focusing on functional medicine, IV, and other practice types. We are looking for synergy and passion.

Practice and rent types are flexible for the right person, ranging from practice partnership with buy-in to straight rented space without affiliation. And everything in between.
