Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of new moms, and sometimes the risks can last for weeks or even months postpartum. Research shows that certain conditions during pregnancy increase the lifetime risk of cardiovascular disease for both moms and their babies for the rest of their lives, making a heart-healthy pregnancy even more important.
Thanks to the local community impact sponsor, Our Lady of the Angels Hospital, we’ve been able to donate 55 “New Mom Kits” to the Southeast Louisiana Pregnancy Crisis Center for Women and Children. These kits are specifically designed to support moms and their new babies and include:
• A blood pressure cuff and information on Self-Measured Blood Pressure monitoring
• Critical information about mom’s heart health during pregnancy
• Resources that mom can access related to care and local services, including Medicaid, WIC, and more
• An Infant CPR Anytime kit that allows multiple caregivers to be trained in the lifesaving skill of CPR. Knowing CPR can significantly improve the chances of survival in an emergency such as choking, breathing issues, or drowning.
Thanks to connections made by an American Heart Association Greater New Orleans Board Member and Our Lady of the Angels Hospital, local moms and babies are now able to live longer, healthier lives.
