The Central Louisiana Human Services District (CLHSD) is the result of an effort to combine the delivery of the state’s mental health, addictive disorders, and developmental disability service systems through a local governing entity. Historically, services were provided to clients by 3 separate systems (Office of Mental Health- OMH, Office of Addictive Disorders- OAD, and Office of Citizens with Developmental Disabilities- OCDD). Now all 3 systems operate under one roof, which makes it easier for clients to access services from one or more systems. CLHSD provides all of these services either directly in our clinics or indirectly by contracting with community partners, in all eight of the parishes comprising the Region 6 Human Services District (Avoyelles, Catahoula, Concordia, Grant, LaSalle, Rapides, Vernon, and Winn). CLHSD accepts most insurance plans (Medicaid, Medicare, BCBS, Humana, etc.) and still provides services to clients who have no insurance or cannot afford to pay for services based upon limited income. Priority admission is given for treatment of IV drug users, addicted pregnant women, and addicted women who have dependent children. services are offered within 48 hours until admission is accomplished. Addictive disorders services can be offered with no or little waiting period.
We provide outpatient mental health services and addiction services for children and adults directly at our four Caring Choices Clinics in Alexandria, Leesville, Marksville, and Jonesville. This includes outpatient counseling (individual or group therapy) and medication management as well as testing for HIV and TB. We also have contracts to provide inpatient adult and adolescent addiction services in Pineville at Red River Treatment Center and Gateway, as well as outpatient adolescent services. We provide drop in centers, a clothing closet, and a food pantry through partnerships with the Extra Mile. We have an addiction prevention department that includes Life Skills training in schools, to***co and compliance checks, problem gambling prevention and intervention, and monthly coalition meetings in each of the 8 parishes we serve.
Through our disability office in Alexandria we provide the Single Point of Entry for people with developmental disabilities who are seeking supports or services through the Louisiana Department of Health. These services include flexible family funds, individual and family support, support coordination, supported living, school transition services, residential, early steps, waivers, and/or community support teams. We provide several waiver options as well as personal Care Services (PCS), extended care, companion care, dental and medical services, equipment and supplies, communication services, crisis intervention, specialized nutrition, and individualized family services for those with developmental disabilities.
