We were honored to gather with women from across Central Louisiana for an inspiring and empowering afternoon focused on heart health. Hosted by the Alexandria - LA Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and led by Chairperson Dr. Sharifa Baker Bevels, the event created a welcoming space where women wore red in solidarity and learned how to prevent, recognize and understand treatment options for heart disease, the leading cause of death among women.
When women are informed and supported, hearts all around are stronger.

Loving God, as we welcome the Lenten season with Ash Wednesday, we gather before you as a community of faith. May this Lenten journey be an opportunity to grow deeper in our faith, our love and service to you and for others. We ask your mercy throughout this season of repentance and reconciliation so that we may renew our hearts and walk in the full light of your love.

"Return to me with your whole heart." - Joel 2:12

What a magical night at the Cabrini Pediatric Therapy Center! Our patients and families lit up the gym at our Mardi Gras Sneaker Ball, decorating shoebox floats, enjoying pizza and king cake, and celebrating every child’s confidence and individuality. A highlight of the night was crowning our very own CPTC King and Queen, a beautiful reminder that every child we serve brings their own unique light to our community.
A huge thank‑you to the Phi Mu -Alpha Sigma Chapter UL-Lafayette. 🩷 Their support through our Foundation and Children's Miracle Network, along with their incredible hands‑on involvement, strengthens our pediatric therapy programs and makes joyful, inclusive moments like this possible.
Nights like this capture what CPTC is all about—therapy, community, and pure celebration coming together for our kids.

When it comes to heart disease, prevention is the strongest tool we have, says Nuclear Cardiology Specialist Dr. Muhammad Siddique Pir. Symptoms include chest discomfort, fluttering sensations, shortness of breath, sudden fatigue, or swelling in the legs or feet. According to Dr. Pir, simple steps like staying active, eating a heart-healthy diet, maintaining healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and following up regularly with your primary care provider can make a tremendous difference. Screening for heart-related hypertension is recommended beginning at age 18, and cholesterol checks should start as early as age 30, or earlier for individuals with a family history of heart disease.

In honor of Black History Month, we are celebrating our black saints and holy figures like Saint Charles Lwanga. One of the 22 Ugandan martyrs, Saint Charles Lwanga is the patron of youth and Catholic action in much of tropical Africa. In the royal court of Uganda, he courageously protected fellow young pages from immoral demands and strengthened them in their faith during imprisonment. Baptized shortly before his death, Charles inspired others to remain faithful and steadfast. He was martyred by burning on June 3, 1886, and his legacy continues to inspire courage, purity and devotion among generations of believers.

Herbert Perkins never expected a routine checkup to reveal a life-threatening heart condition, but the quick action of his care team changed everything. After years of staying active and feeling his best, a concerning blood pressure reading led to tests that showed severe blockages in his arteries requiring immediate surgery. Because Alexandria has offered advanced heart care for more than fifty years, Herbert received the treatment he needed close to home without delay. He underwent triple bypass surgery the same day as his diagnosis. Herbert says the coordinated care felt like someone telling him, "I’m going to take care of you," and that reassurance carried him through recovery. Today, he encourages others to keep their checkups, listen to their doctors, and trust the heart care available right here in Alexandria.

This Black History Month, we are celebrating a century of resilience, progress and education by honoring the transformational impact of Black people’s work throughout the U.S., Africa and the Diaspora. We recognize the accomplishments and significant contributions of our Associates across our ministries and the communities we serve. For Del Shankle, System Director of Enterprise Print & Brand Services, this recognition serves as a powerful reminder that possibility exists regardless of where a journey begins. “Celebrating a century of resilience, progress and education during Black History Month is essential because it reminds future generations that anything is possible—no matter where their journey begins.”

Make plans to hit the dance floor at the Cabrini Ball while making a difference in our community. Guests will enjoy a dazzling live performance by The Molly Ringwalds, a high‑energy ’80s cover band from New Orleans. In honor of Black History Month, we are celebrating our black saints and holy figures like Mother Elizabeth Clarisse Lange, OSP. Mother Mary Elizabeth Lange (1784–1882), born in the Caribbean, immigrated to Baltimore where she opened a school in her home for impoverished Black children. Guided by deep faith and courage, she founded the Oblate Sisters of Providence in 1829, the first religious order for women of African descent in the Catholic Church. Despite poverty and racism, she dedicated her life to educating Black children, caring for orphans, nursing the sick and supporting formerly enslaved people. Her life is a powerful example of generosity and commitment to serving others.
