When 80-year-old Duane Lathrop faced a severe foot infection, Podiatric Surgeon Dr. Joey Karim Ead employed a revolutionary technique that harnesses the natural healing properties of cod skin. Acting as a biological substitute, the cod skin graft promoted rapid healing, and within six months, Duane was back on his feet, walking independently and living life on his terms. Dr. Ead became the first podiatric surgeon in the Alexandria region to use this technique, earning second place out of 85 entries in the Aurora Awards and standing as the only podiatrist in our ministries to receive this national recognition. This National Foot Health Awareness Month, we celebrate innovative care that restores mobility, independence, and hope for patients at every stage of life.

Thank you for making history at the Cabrini Ball! ✨ Because of the extraordinary generosity of our sponsors, donors and guests, this year’s Cabrini Ball raised $256,000, the highest amount in the event’s 45‑year history. These funds will support the renovation and modernization of the neonatal intensive care unit, helping create a more advanced, healing and family‑centered environment for our tiniest and most vulnerable patients.
Your support is making a lasting impact on newborns and families across our community, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who made this unforgettable evening possible. Together, we’re building a stronger future, one new beginning at a time.

In honor of National Donate Life Month, we came together to celebrate the power of life, legacy and hope. 🦋💜
This year, we’re proud to introduce our new Butterfly Wall outside the ICU, a meaningful space dedicated to honoring donor heroes and the lives they’ve touched. Yesterday we held a butterfly release in the Healing Garden, as a tribute to the lasting reminder of renewal, transformation and the incredible impact of organ, eye and tissue donation.
More than 100,000 people are waiting for a transplant, and one donor can save up to eight lives. Behind every number is a story, and every story begins with a conversation.

Take a moment this month to learn more, talk with your loved ones and consider registering as a donor. One decision can make a lifetime of difference.

Our tiniest patients are getting in on the holiday fun because every bunny deserves a little celebration. 💜🐰🥕
Moments like these bring comfort, joy and a sense of normalcy for families during their NICU journey. We’re so grateful for the team members who make these memories possible.

Lord Jesus Christ,

You are the Resurrection and the Life. In You, death is defeated, and hope is restored. Strengthen our faith so that, even in times of loss and uncertainty, we may trust in Your promise of eternal life. Unite us as one people in Your love, and let the joy of Your rising fill our hearts with peace.

Amen

Thank everyone who joined us to observe the Stations of the Cross this season in our Trinity Healing Garden. The devotional exercise of visiting and praying in front of each of the 14 stations and meditating on the Passion of Christ stems from the practice of early Christian pilgrims who visited the scenes of the events in Jerusalem and walked the traditional route from the supposed location of Pilate's house to Calvary, where Christ was crucified.

Rain is like your typical toddler—she loves watching Peppa Pig, eating popcorn, and playing with her kitchen set. With the help of speech and occupational therapy at our Kids Clinic, she’s learning to communicate more clearly and manage her emotions through sensory activities like deep pressure and movement. This Autism Acceptance Month, we celebrate victories like Rain’s and the hard work put in to help each child thrive. Whether it’s improving communication, making new friends, or learning emotional regulation, we’re here to support every child along the way!

In honor of Women’s History Month, we are celebrating women saints like Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross. Born Edith Stein in 1891 into a Jewish family, she was a brilliant philosopher whose search for truth led her to Catholicism after reading the writings of St. Teresa of Ávila. Entering the Carmelite order, she continued to offer her intellect and faith to the Church amid rising N**i persecution. Arrested in 1942 and sent to Auschwitz, she died in the gas chambers, offering her life in solidarity with her people. Canonized in 1998, she is honored as a philosopher, mystic and modern martyr whose courage and conviction continue to inspire generations.

This month, we’re celebrating how the physicians we work with are putting our values into action. Nominated for displaying the CHRISTUS value of excellence, today we’re proud to recognize Dr. Gene Otounye!

As an ICU physician, Dr. Otounye exemplifies excellence through clinical expertise, steady leadership, and compassionate communication. In the fast‑moving, high‑stakes environment of critical care, he not only responds to emergencies—he anticipates them. His leadership elevates the entire care team. Dr. Otounye fosters collaboration, invites input from nurses, and creates a space where every team member feels empowered to speak up. During rapid changes or crises, he remains composed and clear, guiding the team with confidence and focus.

Thank you, Dr. O, for the extraordinary excellence you bring to critically ill patients, their families, and the entire Cabrini team.
