Team Spotlight! Dr. Bianca Bonds shares about the lens she uses in her work at Expand Psychology:

“Hello, I’m Dr. Bianca Bonds. My background as a long-time educator informs how I approach my clinical practice. One aspect of my work is supporting the reduction of barriers to academic achievement. My experiences provide a vantage point for considering how institutional and societal structures alongside family systems affect health and wellness across developmental stages.

I'm also passionate about working with adults, particularly those exploring relational and attachment dynamics, mood related concerns, or complex trauma.

I provide therapy out of our Old Town and Falls Church offices and would love to meet you and discuss how I can support you.

Reach out to me directly at bbonds@expandpsychologyva.com or call our office at (703) 618-0900 and ask for me."

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

At Expand Psychology we are committed to creating a safe, supportive space for healing. Experiences of sexual violence can have lasting emotional impacts, and no one should have to navigate that alone. Therapy can be a place to process, heal, and regain a sense of safety and control at your own pace.

If you or someone you know is seeking support, reach out to Expand Psychology at any time of the year to connect with one of our trauma-informed clinicians who are trained to support survivors. And if you are looking for resources to understand Sexual Assault further or get confidential support, visit:

Women are nearly twice as likely to experience depression and anxiety disorders, and these higher rates don’t happen by accident.

Hormonal changes outside of their control, increased caregiving responsibilities, social pressures, and higher rates of interpersonal trauma (including sexual violence) all play a role.

If you are looking for a way to empower and connect with women, join us on Saturday, May 9 in Falls Church for the upcoming Women’s Crawl, a five-stop immersive crawl created by ShrinksonTap to celebrate women and build connections. Interactive stations, community connections, guided moments, and even a dance party!

Expand Psychology is thrilled to be the presenting sponsor for this event and we hope you join us there!

Becoming a new mom can bring joy, love... and many unexpected emotions. While postpartum depression gets a lot of attention today (which is important!), it is only part of the picture. Many new mothers experience anxiety, overwhelm, identity shifts, relationship changes, or simply the pressure to “do it all” perfectly.

You don’t have to wait until things feel unbearable to talk to someone. Therapy can be a space to process the emotional ups and downs of motherhood, navigate changes in relationships, build coping tools to handle the stress, and reconnect with yourself.

Read our recent exploring beyond postpartum depression and why more mothers should consider therapy.

Support isn’t just for when you’re struggling. It is for when you want to feel more like yourself again. If you or someone you know could use postpartum support, reach out to us Expand Psychology to meet with our providers who specialize in working with mothers and parents.

The latest research on PDA (Known as Persistent Drive for Autonomy or Pathological Demand Avoidance) emphasizes clients experiencing PDA-affirming care in all of their environments, prioritizing autonomy, sensory needs, connection and attunement.

We are excited to announce that our expert clinicians are now offering workshops for both parents and school staff! These workshops will help participants recognize and understand PDA, consider how it impacts engagement in daily routines and environments, and learn practical strategies to support regulation while responding with greater confidence and connection.

Interested in exploring these workshop options? Reach out to us Expand Psychology to learn more!

We are proud to share that two of our clinicians, Kirimi Fuller and Hannah Poole, led an in-service training for the Arlington Public Schools social workers and school psychologists on the profile. They covered current research, how PDA can present in school settings, and practical, supportive strategies for working with this neurodiverse population.

The training also highlighted ways to incorporate PDA-informed approaches into IEPs, 504 plans, and classroom practices, helping teams better support student autonomy and success.

If you are interested in learning more about PDA or are looking for a provider who offers PDA-affirming care, reach out to Psychology to connect with one of our specialized clinicians.

We are so grateful to The Center for Alexandria's Children, Inc. for providing our team with the Stewards of Children® training, an evidence-informed program on how to prevent, recognize, and respond to child sexual abuse.

As therapists, many of us work closely with children and families, and continuing to educate ourselves on how to understand the warning signs of child sexual abuse, work to prevent it, and respond safely and effectively is essential to protecting children in our communities.

During our visit, we had the opportunity to tour the The Center for Alexandria's Children, Inc.'s offices and learn more about the vital work they do to prevent and respond to child abuse in our local community and we are honored to have them as a resource.
