The Physician & Midwife Collaborative Practice was born out of the notion that as medicine and technology advances, “care” should still be the foundation of providing medical care to women. We focus on providing compassion, education and support in tandem with the best medical course of action for the individual. By bringing together board-certified OB/GYNs and midwives, we are able to provide our patients with high-touch care in combination with the latest medical technology. This may translate to planning for a natural childbirth with a first-time mother or creating a comprehensive treatment plan, including exercise for a woman who is struggling with menopause. We also do our best to keep this level of care accessible, by offering multiple providers, four office locations, extensive office hours, and 24/7 on-site staff at Inova Alexandria Hospital. In order to respond efficiently and accurately to your needs, we also maintain electronic medical records and offer centralized support staff who can access your lab results and quickly set appointments. If you’ve ever wondered what getting an IUD is actually like, you’re not alone.
IUDs are a safe, effective, long-term birth control option that can be placed during a scheduled appointment, and the procedure itself typically takes just a few minutes. While insertion can feel like strong cramping for some, the discomfort is usually brief, and many patients find the long-term benefits worth it.
Whether you’re exploring your options or ready to make a decision, your provider can walk you through what to expect and help you choose what’s right for you.
Meet Sara Grey, a board-certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
She specializes in gynecological care across the lifespan, with a focus on birth control options (including IUDs and Nexplanon), STI treatment, and evidence-based lactation support tailored to each patient’s needs.
To help improve your experience with our practice, Physicians & Midwives of Advantia will be transitioning to a new Patient Portal and intake platform on Tuesday, April 28.
Once launched, current patients will need to register on the new portal to:
✅ Book appointments with your trusted Physicians & Midwives of Advantia providers
✅ Review and pay new billing statements
✅ Message providers for non-emergency matters
✅ Access appointment-related information
We’ll share the link to the new portal once it’s ready so you can register and start using it!
Please note: Your existing portal will still be available for viewing previous records, messages, and billing history (including current payment plans), and you’ll have the option to link it with the new portal after registration.
If you’ve ever felt anxious about an in-office procedure, you’re not alone — and you have options.
Nitronox provides quick, inhaled relief to help make procedures like IUD placements, pelvic exams, Pap tests, and biopsies more comfortable.
It works within minutes, wears off quickly, and keeps you fully in control throughout your visit.
Ask your provider if Nitronox is a good fit for your next appointment.
Now available at Alexandria, North Arlington, and Kingstowne locations.

Medical Genetics Awareness Week is a time to highlight the important role genetics can play in understanding and planning for your health.
In this video, our provider, Jennifer Razak, MGC, CGC, explains what a genetic counselor does and how they help patients make informed decisions about genetic testing and family planning.
Reproductive genetic counseling can help individuals and couples understand their chances of passing on certain genetic conditions and explore testing options before pregnancy or during pregnancy. A genetic counselor can also help interpret results and guide you through the next steps with clarity and support.
If you’re considering genetic testing or have questions about inherited conditions, a genetic counselor can help you navigate your options.

It’s Medical Genetics Awareness Week, a time to learn more about how genetics can play a role in reproductive health.
Reproductive genetic screening includes tests that can help identify the chance of passing certain inherited conditions to a child or detect possible genetic conditions during pregnancy.
While these screenings can provide valuable information for family planning and pregnancy care, genetic testing is optional, and the decision to pursue screening is a personal one.
Talking with your healthcare provider or a genetic counselor can help you understand the potential benefits, limitations, and whether genetic screening may be right for you.
Menopause isn't just a moment - it's a transition. And for many women, it comes with real changes that deserve real support.
Hot flashes, brain fog, sleep disruption, mood changes, and cycle changes are all common during perimenopause and menopause, but that doesn't mean you have to just "push through."
Menopause care is about understanding what's happening in your body, exploring treatment options, and finding a plan that supports your health and quality of life.
If something feels off, it's worth a conversation.
