Among the proposed Congressional legislation dealing with menopause, several have focused on the need to address the midlife health needs of female veterans, and rightly so. According to a recent article on DAV.com, of the roughly 600,000 women who use Department of Veterans Affairs health care, nearly half are between 45 and 64 years old, spanning the typical life cycle of menopause. The Servicewomen and Veterans Menopause Research Act (S. 1320/H.R. 2717) in the 119th Congress, directs the VA and DoD to research the impact of military service, including combat and toxic exposures, on menopause and to identify research/treatment gaps, alongside related bills like the Improving Menopause Care for Veterans Act of 2025 (H.R. 219) to study and enhance VA menopause care, aiming to address unique challenges faced by women who served.
