Have a rough night? A nap and a little caffeine might help you through a day, but when you are having trouble sleeping three or more times a week, it's time to tell your doctor.

Consistently getting a good night's sleep can help keep your immune system in balance. The article linked below discusses how even one rough night can have an impact on your health. Is it time to ask your provider about your sleep health?

Over the past three decades, we have found that the control of sound, light, and temperature during a sleep period have a major impact on your sleep. You can check out more information on Sleep Hygiene here:

There are many tools and daily routines that can help improve the quality of your sleep. The product mentioned below was recently noted in an article with one of our accreditation agencies and is one example of a tool that can help with sound/noisy sleep environments.

Very often our patients receive a recommendation to avoid sleeping on their back, especially in more severe, or more complex sleep apnea cases. The airway can be greatly affected by positioning for many people. Even with mild sleep apnea cases there can be a big improvement when changing from sleeping on your back, to sleeping on your side.

Do you sleep with your nose pointed towards the ceiling? Well, you just might sleep and breath better by pointing your sniffer a little to the left of right, as it can further open your airway. In rare cases, we are able to recommend positional therapy alone as the primary treatment.

When it comes to sleep apnea, even a couple of millimeters of open airway can help reduce snoring and sleep apnea severity. We do not currently recommend one positional device over another, but here is one recently recognized by the VA system: https://zzomaosa.com/

The VA recently added this positional device to its fee schedule:

We have long advised our customers to consider lowering the temperature of their sleep environment to help them go to sleep faster and sleep more consistently through the night. The article linked below discusses a correlation between higher temperatures and sleep apnea.

The takeaway is that it's still a good idea to stay cool during sleep! What is a good temperature for sleep? We recommend whatever feels comfortable to you or somewhere between 65-72 degrees.

High temperatures immediately worsen sleep apnea severity, according to nationwide data from wearable devices.

We see sleep apnea in people of all ages and all sizes. Weight is a factor, but as this research presentation is slated to report, it is not THE factor.

Make sure to watch closely for symptoms like high blood pressure, falling asleep when you don't mean to, irritability, heart related problems, diabetes, and the general lack of energy, as these are some very important red flags to talk with your doctor about.

Sleep testing and treatments are readily accessible through our center. You can click over to redriversleep.com and try the Free Sleep Assessment and let your provider know that you are interested in sleep testing or give us a call us at (318) 443-1684 and we will be glad to help.

Weight is only one factor of many that we recommend considering when screening for sleep apnea. Family history, a narrow airway, a large tongue, and sinus congestion are among the most common sources of sleep apnea. Snoring is also a common sign that sleep apnea may be present, but not everyone with sleep apnea snores.

Want to get screened? Give us a call (318) 443-1684, Option 1.
