This week, CDC’s Acting Director Jim O’Neill accepted the ACIP’s recommendation to roll back the longstanding universal hepatitis B birth dose despite decades of evidence showing it prevents up to 95% of new infections and saves lives.

For the last several months, AASLD has worked alongside partner societies and mobilized our members to advocate for protecting this critical public health measure. Nearly 1,200 letters were sent to policymakers on this issue alone, making it our most engaged advocacy effort of 2025.

We are grateful to our members for their leadership and engagement. AASLD remains committed to advancing evidence-based policy that protects patients, science, and public health.

Visit AASLD’s Policy Communications page for updates and ways to stay engaged as we go forward: www.aasld.org/policy-communications.
