Congress is taking up the health care workforce crisis, and APTA is leading national advocacy to ensure physical therapists are part of the solution.

This week, at a hearing of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health, APTA was joined by 40+ organizations urging support for H.R. 5621, which would add PTs to the National Health Service Corps and expand access to care in rural and underserved communities.

Across the country, APTA state chapters are shaping policies that strengthen the profession with a new historic record of 48 wins delivered in 2025! 🏛️📈

APTA state chapters secured meaningful payment improvements and increased access to care for the profession. 🤝

This work reflects the power of coordinated advocacy and the leadership of APTA members.

Last week APTA was invited to meet with the U.S. Secretary of Education to discuss school-based physical therapy services for students with special needs.

Discussions focused on ensuring continuity of care for students with special needs who rely on pediatric PT services in schools.

Key issues APTA discussed:
• Concerns regarding recent restructuring to the Department of ED and its impact on critical programs impacting the pediatric population.
• The need for clearer guidance and resources for therapy providers.
• Improved information on school-based Medicaid claims processes.
• Reduced administrative burden so PTs can spend less time doing paperwork and more time with students.

APTA’s presence in these high-level policy discussions reinforces our commitment to advocating for PTs and protecting access to essential services for students and families.
