Teenagers often want to contribute something special to a loved one’s funeral. Giving them a clear role helps them feel connected, respected, and valued. Start by asking what feels important or comforting to them. We are always here to offer ideas.

They might choose music their loved one would have enjoyed or create a photo display that captures their personality and life. These small, heartfelt gestures let teens actively honor their loved one in a deeply personal way.

When young people help plan a funeral, they engage in the experience of remembrance. We have seen how this kind of involvement supports their grieving process in a healthy and healing way.

Have you ever noticed how much it means when you show up for someone else's loss?

When you attend the funeral or share your condolences, you're showing them that their loved one's life touched far more hearts than just their family.

Funerals matter because they bring our community together around shared love and loss. It's our privilege to help you create meaningful moments where folks can gather to honor the beautiful impact one life can have.

A new year always feels like a chance to catch your breath, and we hope you take it.

The past twelve months have asked a lot of you, whether you spent them grieving or caregiving or figuring out who you are without someone you love. January 1st doesn't erase any of that, but it does offer a fresh page.

We're wishing you a year with more good days than hard ones, and we're here whenever you need us.💛

Our Family, Here for Your Family

Welcome to Oakcrest Funeral Services. Our funeral home has been a family owned and operated business since 1923. Families have been placing their trust in us for generations, and we are proud to continue that tradition. Owners, Vic Garry (3rd generation funeral director) and Brian Schaaf (2nd generation funeral director) continue the legacy their fathers and original partners have built. We take great pride in serving Algona and our surrounding communities, and truly treat every family like our own. Outstanding service has always been, and always will be our number one priority.

Through the years, we have added several team members that specialize in funeral service, pre-arrangement, aftercare, monuments and memorial items. We invite you to learn more about us, our services and the resources we have to provide you with peace of mind that your family will be our top priority.

We are proud of our tradition and continue the same mission of our founding partners – to treat each funeral with the utmost respect and commit ourselves to helping families honor the memories.

~ Brian Schaaf and Vic Garry
