Plank time!👏

Planks are great for core stabilization but many times I will see people sacrifice form and technique to increase their hold time. Don’t do this! You will counteract any gains by holding a plank in a poor position.

Planks: keep elbows or hands under shoulders. Keep abdominals drawn in towards your spine. Make sure your shoulderblades feel connected to your rib cage. Keep your 👀 to the ground but don’t hang your head. Keep your head in alignment with your the rest of your spine. Work to hold up to 30 seconds to 1 minute, 5 rounds.

☑️ You can make a plank easier by performing on the edge of your counter or using the wall.

This picture is an accurate representation of healing after an injury. Oh and guess what? It often doesn’t fit into a neat package of 4 to 6 weeks (although insurance sure thinks it does). This is also true with elective surgeries like knee replacements and rotator cuff repairs. Just because Jane Doe was skipping up and down stairs post op week 5 and Billy was tossing hay bales at post op week 4 doesn’t mean you will! The 1 step forward and two back are common. Therapy should be individualized and dynamic meeting your needs not that of a protocol. Workout Wednesday! 💪🏋️‍♂️🏃‍♀️
Squats are a great exercise for building leg strength and increasing hip mobility. One compensation I often see is an excessive low back curve inward towards the spine (see picture below). This is often a source of low back pain with weight lifting particularly in the youthful flexible female athlete. When this occurs then you lose necessary core support and stability! Remember to draw in your abdominals and keep the back stable throughout the movement! This might only be a 1 mm change. Your squat depth should come from your hips not your low back.
👉Squats: 10-15 repetitions, 3 sets for general strengthening. Sit down and back like you are sitting in a chair. Keep knees in alignment with the ankles. Allow your knees to come forward but not past your toes. Keep your heels and toes grounded.

What most people think is once you start coming, the doctors want to continue to see you on a regular basis.

Dr. Jake and Dr. Becca evaluate you on your first visit of onset and then put you in a personal treatment plan. After you have gone through the treatment plan, we recommend maintenance care. This time frame depends on you and your body specifically but mostly is once a month.

Many patients have seen a difference in their overall health and future onset’s after starting maintenance visits. They notice quicker relief and less severe onsets!

Therapy Thursday! Diaphragmatic breathing is essential in reducing pain and facilitating proper muscle use in the core! Try lying on your back with your legs supported. Take a deep breath and expand your belly and back. Inhale over a period of 6 seconds. Hold for 4. Breathe out over 8 seconds. Repeat 5 times.

🤤Tasty Tuesday🤤

Check out these yummy fall treats! They taste JUST like the middle of a cinnamon roll!!! 🥰

1. Soak 1-2 cups of cashews for an hour or more until they are soft.

2. Blend in a processor with 1/2 cup of coconut milk until creamy. (If the the mix still seems dry, add more milk as needed)

3. Add 1 tablespoon of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon of nutmeg, 1 tablespoon of vanilla, 3 tablespoons of collagen, 2 tablespoons of maple syrup and blend again until creamy.

4. Cut open the dates 1/2 way and scoop the cream into the dates.

5. Enjoy and try not to eat them all at once!
