🌊🐾 **Severe Weather Awareness Week – Day #5: Flood Safety**

Maverick here… floods can happen fast and become deadly even faster. Water may look calm, but it’s powerful and unpredictable. Here’s how to stay safe:

🐾 Turn Around, Don’t Drown
Never drive through flooded roads—just 12 inches of water can carry away a vehicle.

🐾 Get to higher ground
If flooding starts, move immediately to higher ground—don’t wait.

🐾 Follow evacuation orders
If officials say leave, go early. It keeps you and responders safe.

🐾 Stay out of floodwaters
You can’t see what’s below—debris, sharp objects, or washed-out roads.

🐾 Have multiple alerts
Stay informed with weather radios, apps, and local alerts.

⚠️ Just 6 inches of moving water can knock you down. Flooding is one of the leading weather-related killers—don’t take chances.

🐶 “If you see water rising, it’s time to move. Trust your instincts and get to safety.” – Maverick

🌬️🌩️ Severe Weather Awareness Week – Day #4: Hail & Wind Safety 🐾

Maverick here… when the winds start howling and hail begins to fall, things can turn dangerous fast. Let’s keep you and your family safe:

🐾 Get inside early
Stay indoors and away from windows—hail can shatter glass quickly.

🐾 Protect your vehicles
Move them into a garage or away from trees and power lines if possible.

🐾 Secure loose items
Patio furniture, grills, and trash cans can become flying hazards in strong winds.

🐾 Avoid trees & power lines
Branches can snap and lines can fall—keep your distance.

🐾 Stay weather aware
Have multiple ways to receive warnings and alerts.

⚠️ Hail can fall at dangerous speeds, and strong winds can cause serious damage in seconds. Don’t wait—take action early.

🐶 “If the wind is roaring, it’s time to take cover. Stay alert and stay safe—I’m watching out for you.” – Maverick

🌪️ Severe Weather Awareness Day #2: Tornado Safety with Crisis K9 Maverick 🐾

Hey friends… Maverick here. When the sky turns dark and the wind starts to roar, it’s time to act fast and stay safe. Here’s how you protect yourself and your pack:

🐾 Know where to go
Head to a basement, storm shelter, or an interior room on the lowest floor—away from windows.

🐾 No basement? No problem
Get to a small interior space like a bathroom or closet. Cover your head and neck.

🐾 Mobile homes are NOT safe
Have a plan to get to a sturdy building ahead of time.

🐾 Outdoors or driving?
Find a sturdy building immediately. If none is available, lie flat in a low ditch and cover your head.

🐾 Stay alert
Have multiple ways to receive warnings—weather radio, phone alerts, and local media.

🐾 **Protect yourself from debris**
Use blankets, helmets, or anything available to shield yourself.

⚠️ Tornadoes can happen fast—sometimes with little warning. Preparation is your best defense.

🐶 “Stay alert, trust your instincts, and take cover early. I’ve got your six.” – Maverick

🐾 Maverick’s Weather Watch! 🐾

Hi friends — Crisis K9 Maverick here!

Severe Weather Awareness Week is March 23–27, and that means it’s time to get ready before the storms roll across Iowa. My friends at the US National Weather Service Des Moines Iowa remind us that the best time to prepare is before severe weather hits.

Here are Maverick’s quick preparedness tips:

🐾 Practice your plans– Make sure everyone in your family knows where to go when a tornado warning is issued.
🐾 Know your alerts – Weather radios, phone alerts, and local warnings can save lives.
🐾 Check your emergency kit – Water, flashlight, batteries, medications, and supplies for people and pets.
🐾 Stay weather aware – Spring storms can develop quickly across Iowa.

📅 Throughout that week, I’ll be bringing you important safety tips on:
⚡ Lightning Safety
🌪️ Tornado Safety
🧰 Emergency Preparedness
🌬️ Hail & Wind Safety
🌊 Flood Safety

During Severe Weather Awareness Week, take a few minutes to practice your plans and check your emergency kit. Your future self (and your dog!) will thank you.

Stay safe out there,
🐕 – Maverick, Crisis K9

Maverick wants to give a big thank you to the Clerk of Courts ladies for his Christmas present! 🎁🐾 He always enjoys stopping by your office and soaking up all the attention.
Tonight, Maverick proudly wore his festive holiday lights and got to make a very important decision… treat time! The big question: Santa or the Snowman? After some serious sniffing, a little tail wagging, and plenty of dramatic consideration, he finally made his choice — and enjoyed every bite.

Thank you again for making his holiday season a little brighter. He can’t wait for his next visit! 🎄✨🐾

Maverick had a great morning at Emmetsburg Catholic School! 🐾
He helped support the students during their ALICE drill and then made the rounds to visit each classroom. Nothing like a few tail wags and smiles to help reinforce safety and calm. 💙

Proud to support our partners at the Palo Alto County Emergency Management and Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office in helping build safer, stronger schools. 👮‍♂️🚓🐶✨

🐾 Hey friends, it’s Maverick!

I had a great couple of days at the Iowa Association of County Medical Examiners Fall Meeting & Education Expo on November 7–8! I made lots of new friends, took some fun photo ops with vendors, and got to hang out with our awesome partners from the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner and the IIowa Donor Network
Always happy to lend a paw, share a few smiles, and remind everyone that teamwork (and a good head scratch) makes the tough days a little easier. 💙

🎃🐾 Maverick’s Howl-o-ween Adventures! 🐾🎃

Our favorite Crisis Canine, Maverick, was out clowning around today spreading smiles and spooky cheer! 👻 He stopped by to visit his friends at the Kossuth County Sheriff's Office Algona Police Department and Dispatch, then made his way through the **Kossuth County Courthouse** for some spooktacular fun.

Maverick wishes all the kids (and grown-ups too!) a safe, fun, and treat-filled night of **trick-or-treating!** 🍬🕷️🎃

Stay safe, have fun, and remember — even heroes like Maverick take time to enjoy a little Halloween magic! 🐶💛

Maverick attended the 2025 Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency ManagementI Conference this week — learning right alongside his handler about effective animal response, railroad preparedness, the State Fire Marshal Division’s initiatives, and “Finding Your Beat: The Rhythm of Life.” 🎶
Maverick also enjoyed reconnecting with many EMA friends and fellow response K9s throughout the week.
Always learning, always ready to serve! 💙🐾
