Hospice of the Heartland

Hospice of the Heartland serves both Kossuth and Hancock Counties in Iowa.

Mission: The mission of Hospice is to enhance the quality of a patient's and family's life at home or in a home like setting. Hospice seeks to effectively manage a patient's symptoms allowing them to live as fully as able with the time that they have been given.

Sending a sincere 'THANK YOU' to the ladies involved with the Burt Library's Coloring and Coffee group. These thoughtful women donated over 30 hand made blankets to Hospice of the Heartland today! Our patient's love getting these as gifts and we can't wait to share them!

Did you know: The vision of the original hospice movement was to ensure that everyone had access to compassionate, comprehensive, community focused, end-of-life care.

Massage therapy can be relaxing and comforting for all ages, but hospice patients in particular can benefit significantly from this form of therapy. Massage has been proven to provide significant improvement for pain, anxiety and health-related quality of life according to the American Massage Therapy Association.

Hospice of the Heartland is proud to offer massage therapy along with its other therapies and services to our clients.

Meet Sherry Carlson, our Massage Therapist and a great addition to our Hospice Team.

At Hospice of the Heartland, our care focuses on treating the whole person – mind, body and spirit.

Music therapy has been shown to decrease symptoms such as nausea, pain, fatigue and shortness of breath. It can also reduce emotional issues such as depression, anxiety, anger and fear.

Meet Allie Wirtz, our music therapist. Allie is available to see our Hospice patients multiple times a month and is able to tailor her sessions to each individual patient.

Our hospice is in the process of purchasing one of these types of beds for our hospice room at KRHC....

Sharing the gift of 'I'm here': Cuddle beds bring comfort to end of life patients. "We believe that hearing is the last sense to go so that opportunity to whisper 'I love you' closely is very, very important," she said.
