Hospice of the Heartland

Hospice of the Heartland serves both Kossuth and Hancock Counties in Iowa.

Mission: The mission of Hospice is to enhance the quality of a patient's and family's life at home or in a home like setting. Hospice seeks to effectively manage a patient's symptoms allowing them to live as fully as able with the time that they have been given.

The raffling of the Hospice Purse is open to the General Public - not just Bingo ticket holders! 😊

Tickets are $5 for one ticket or $20 for 5 tickets
Contact Kossuth County Cancer Support Foundation for tickets!

And don't forget about the Hospice Coach purse and wallet. We will present a check to hospice after the event. Let's show them how much we appreciate their dedication and hard work. Let's show the love! This raffle is open to the public.

Today begins National Nurses Week! Hospice of the Heartland would like to say ‘Thank You’ to nurses everywhere. We would also like to give a special shout-out to our own team of nurses. We appreciate our nurses’ dedication to their work, their thoughtfulness, and their strength. We are grateful for the impact these 9 ladies have on the lives of our patients and their families. Thank you ladies for the difference you make every day. #nurseschangelives

David Kessler and Brené on Grief and Finding Meaning | Brené Brown

If you enjoy Podcasts, David Kessler was recently a guest on one of Brené Brown's new podcasts.

BrenĂ©'s Recap: Grief expert David Kessler takes us by the hand and walks us into what he’s learned about love, loss, and finding meaning. As someone who has a lot of fear about grief and grieving, this conversation is not what I expected. The only word I can use to describe what I learned from David is “beautiful.”

During all the uncertainty going on in the world right now, we love having things to celebrate!!

Today, we would like to celebrate somebody who works mostly behind the scenes at Hospice of the Heartland but her hard work definitely does not go unnoticed!!

A HUGE shout-out goes out to Cindy Ludwig-Tebben today - THANK YOU so much for everything you do around here! Our office would not be the same (or run near as smoothly) without your support!

Happy Administrative Professional's Day!

"No one is more cherished in this world than someone who lightens the burden of another."

National Volunteer Week is April 19-25, 2020. Hospice of Heartland has been blessed with some of the most dedicated and caring volunteers who are always willing to give their time to our patients as well as their caregivers. This week we would like to recognize our volunteers and say THANK YOU for everything they do!!

Community Health & Hospice wants to give a ‘shout-out’ to Rize Nutrition For bringing us some of their amazing shakes and tea bombs today!! You guys are amazing! #sharethelove

These beautiful flowers were delivered to the Community Health and Hospice office. We would like to thank whoever sent them - they are absolutely beautiful. They brightened up our office and our day!

Did you know: the right amount of sunlight can have lots of mood-lifting benefits? Getting anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes of sunlight two to three times a week is enough to enjoy the vitamin-D boosting benefits of the sun.

Ways to enjoy the sun while social distancing:
1. Take a walk around your neighborhood
2. Ride your bike
3. Birdwatching
4. Gardening or yardwork
5. Sidewalk chalk or bubble blowing
6. Have a picnic in your yard
7. Read a book or crochet outside

If you’re unable to get outside you can always sit next to an open window and breathe the fresh air or bring some fresh flowers into the house.

Please join us in wishing our Medical Directors, Dr. Lampe and Dr. Venteicher, a Happy Provider's Day. We appreciate you both and celebrate you today and every day!

Kossuth County Cancer Support Foundation

We are excited to be featured at the April Purse Bingo! The Kossuth County Cancer Support Foundation does such amazing things for our patients; it is a privilege to be able to partner with them from time to time!

For our April 2020 Designer Purse Bingo we will be recognizing Hospice of the Heartland and the individuals who are associated with this awesome organization. We have something special planned!

We are so excited that 'Pay it Forward Always' has chosen our organization to assist them in honoring the memory of Richard Kent. Richard was a wonderful man and it is a privilege to assist in helping keep his memory alive!

Yesterday we had an Emotional and Amazing Day for Pay it Forward Always. We were approached by Jean and Bob Kent around Christmas with a donation in the memory of Richard Kent. I knew we needed to do something very special with this. I contacted Erika Elbert at Hy-Vee - knowing how Richard worked there and alot of great memories for all with him. We came up with some great ideas and met with Krystal their Floral Department Manager and came up with a plan. The Yellow Rose you see Bob holding will be given to every patient that is in Hospice at the Hospital. Hospice has been so kind to let Pay It Forward Always take this over and we will continue to show the Love to Families at Hospice. We also have contacted both Nursing Homes in Algona and every month they will call in their total for birthdays each month and balloons will be delivered to each Birthday Resident. (Erika is holding some balloons) What a way to brighten their day. We know Richard would love to be part of these Acts of Kindness. Thank you Jean and Bob for your donation to Pay it Forward Always. We appreciate all you do and hope we honored your donation. Thank You to Hy-Vee for all your support with these programs. Your willingness to Always Give Back means so much to our Community! Pay it Forward Always :)

Attention All Golfers:
Mark your calendars; this tournament is for a great cause!

On behalf of all the staff at Hospice of the Heartland, 'Thank You' for the all of the support we have received in 2019. We are excited to continue to serve our community in 2020 and in the many years to come!!

Sending you all Warm Wishes this Holiday Season!

Santa is many things; he is love, he is magic, he is hope and he fills people's hearts with joy during the Holidays.

This past weekend, Santa and his elf were able to bring Joy to all of the patients currently on service with Hospice of the Heartland. To be honest, I'm not sure if Santa or the patients enjoyed the visits more. This is definitely a new tradition we hope to continue for years to come!

Wishing you all 'Happy Holidays' from everyone here at Hospice of the Heartland!

Two of our staff are featured in tomorrow's Kossuth County Advance - look for these two pictures to find their articles.

Our team loves to spread Holiday cheer! Yesterday, the ladies from Community Health and Hospice 'Candy Cane Bombed' the KRHC parking lot for the 2nd year in a row! Tis the season to think of others!

Hospice of the Heartland

When a patient’s care transitions from curing to caring, Hospice of the Heartland is there. Services are provided to clients diagnosed with a terminal illness who can no longer benefit from curative treatment. The typical Hospice patient has a life expectancy of 6 months or less. Services are provided by a team of trained, local professionals—physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, pharmacists, dietitians, home health aides, and volunteers—who provide medical, care and support services not only to the patients but also to the entire family.
