Happy New Year to all of our Reach for Speech families! As it is a new year, we need to confirm that our patient files are up to date and reverify all insurance information. Please fill out your 2026 digital forms via the link that will be sent from our office number: 724-888-2548. Please do not hesitate to give the front office a call if you have any questions or need help completing the forms digitally. You can expect to receive this text the night before your first appointment of the New Year!

Our preschool social groups are continuing in the New Year! 😄💙Is your child struggling with routines, transitions, or social skills that are expected in the classroom? Our social groups may be a great fit for them! Please help us celebrate our most recent Intensive Strength Program Graduate, Tony!🎉 Over the course of his 3-week program, Tony has gained strength and mobility to increase his independence with rolling and is working on pushing with his legs to belly crawl across the floor.💪 He is propping up on his elbows to lift his head up, and is showing improvement in sitting balance, too. We've had so much fun watching him work hard and make progress toward these new skills. 😄 Well done, Tony!!💗

Meet our new friend Topple the Snowman Tower!☃️ Miss Kate came up with this great snow day activity for her patients. This is great for gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination and so much more!

Try this activity out at home with your kiddos on their next snow day with the instructions below:
1. Tape simple hand drawn snowman faces onto a handful of upside-down plastic cups and build a tower.
2. Use a ball that you have on hand (crumpled paper or rolled up sock pairs work great, too!) 🥎🧦
3. Take turns throwing to topple the tower! 💥

This activity is great for practicing overhand or underhand throwing. Change it up and work on balance by kicking the tower down with each foot or kicking a ball toward the tower!

We love incorporating festive activities into therapy sessions, making our time with patients both fun and effective! The holidays can be overwhelming for kids and adults alike! Trying to sit still for a big meal with lots of loud voices gathered around a table full of different smells and textures can be especially tough for kids who have sensory processing difficulties. We hope that these tips can help you and your family have a more sensory friendly holiday!

Have you heard of Primitive Reflexes? These instinctual responses are natural for infants up to 6 months old. They help babies survive and thrive as they are developing their voluntary motor function. However, if these responses continue past 6 months to a year of age, it can be a sign of a developmental issue. Our OT team shared more about how these responses work and how they can help kids integrate these responses into voluntary motor skills on this week's blog.
