REACH FOR SPEECH ANNOUNCEMENT: EFFECTIVE MAY 11TH
Please note that Reach for Speech has been considered to be an essential business from Day 1. We halted face to face services until we had more data and were confident that we could provide services with utmost safety for all. The timing and announcement of this decision was made prior to our Governor’s announcement on May 1 so that we might avoid the potential perception of taking a political stance to our decision. Again, we have always been allowed to see clients, but we were being extra cautious. We are now beginning a phased approach to seeing our clients face to face and we are confident that we can do this safely. Some of the things we will be doing or using to help protect our clients and therapists are as follows:
• Following CDC guidelines
• Telehealth when possible. Some insurances are only allowing this service to be provided on a short term basis.
• Alternating Telehealth with In-Office visits when appropriate.
• Fluctuating shifts for employees to reduce employee and client flow.
• Enhanced cleaning of rooms and all materials before, during, and after sessions. Bleach/cleaning stations set up for soaking of toys between sessions.
• Masks for therapists. Masks for children over 2 years of age if they are able. Gloves for therapists.
• Portable plexiglass screens
• Fewer children entering our space by offering “intensity clinics”. Certain PT/OT clients may be offered our Intensity Clinic using our “Spider Cage”. This intensive, daily, 3 week PT/OT program allows rapid results and fewer children to enter our space during a period of time.
• Interactive Metronome Therapy: in office or using a family-purchased Home Unit.
• Picky Eater’s Club: individualized program from your kitchen to our computer screens via telehealth.
• Minimize waiting room flow: We will meet parents at the building entrance door to get their children to and from therapy.
• Upon entering the building we request removal of shoes and washing of hands with soap and water.
• Cessation of handshakes, fist-bumps, hugs, high-fives, etc.
• General reduction in touch between child and therapist while encouraging increased inclusion of parents to perform tasks that require touch.
• Sanitizing all countertops, chairs, door knobs, light switches, pens, etc. between sessions.
• Children will not reach into "communal" containers, such as when choosing a lollipop.
• Food/drink is not permitted except in designated areas.
• Use of private spaces. Therapists will take turns in the gym space.
• If your child or others in your family have a fever, cough, sneezing, runny nose, or increased oral/nasal secretions we request that you cancel your face to face session.
• We will open our windows as weather permits for improved flow of fresh air.
• We will sanitize our public spaces and restrooms much more frequently throughout the day.

Our Reach for Speech team is sending you all blessings and love! We are looking forward to seeing you! Please contact our office or your therapist if you have any questions or concerns. We want to hear from you.

03/18/2020

Due to the Corona-virus's impact upon our community, Reach for Speech will be cancelling all sessions between 3/19/2020-4/3/2020. We hope to reopen on 4/6/2020 and will be in communication with all of our families if our time frames would need to change. We are so sorry to have to do this, but we feel that it is best to take extra precautions to protect our clients and therapists in light of the current situation.

Many families have asked about tele-therapy. Reach for Speech is working diligently with state officials and insurance companies to allow tele-therapy to be a billable service for speech, occupational, and physical therapy. We will keep you updated should this become a viable option for insurance funded programs.

Many families have been asking about our cancellation policy and Coronavirus. Please forgive me that I am unable to specify exactly how we will tweak our current policies due to the ever changing impact of this virus. We are working out a very reasonable plan that will offer a healthy balance of offering “some” makeups without placing too many demands on families or our therapists. The new rules will all be dependent upon the greatly varying effects of Coronavirus upon our families and our agency as a whole. Please rest assured that we are here to help....we do not want to contribute to anyone’s stress or concern. And if there would ever be an issue please don’t hesitate to talk to us.

REACH FOR SPEECH
COVID-19 (Corona Virus) PRECAUTIONS 3/15/2020
Given the current situation with COVID-19, our office and community are operating at a heightened level of caution. Reach for Speech will be taking additional steps to minimize the spread of the virus, in an effort to flatten the curve and to keep our patients and staff as healthy as possible. Please go to the CDC website if you need to learn more about the virus.
If you become ill with COVID-19 and you have been to our office within the past 14 days, please notify our office immediately. If you are experiencing symptoms of illness, please call our office or contact your therapist to cancel/reschedule your appointment. Symptoms include:
• Fever
• Cough
• Shortness of breath
Our facility is not a hospital but rather a freestanding, private practice with a low volume of patients within the office at any given time. This allows us to control our environment for your safety.
Please note the following standard (things we alreadydo every day) and enhanced (increased disinfection practices to help reduce the spread of COVID-19) precautions that we have implemented in the office:
STANDARD PRECAUTIONS
• Hand sanitizer or washing between every interaction for both the therapists and the children
• Disinfecting all toys with which patients come in contact after (or during) every session
• Asking patients who are sick (eg: any contagious illness) to reschedule their appointment
• No eating in our waiting rooms
• Daily cleaning/sanitizing of our restrooms and therapy spaces.
ENHANCED PRECAUTIONS
• If you have recently traveled outside of the country, please contact your therapist or our front desk to see if we should cancel your session.
• All books and toys have been removed from our waiting rooms to reduce transmission of germs as much as possible.
• Minimize waiting room flow: We will now meet parents at the building entrance door or at their car to get their children to and from therapy.
• Requiring ALL people (therapists, parents, children, siblings) to wash hands with soap and water upon entering the building.
• Requesting the removal of shoes (therapists, parents, children, siblings) in the main hallway before entering our highly sanitized office space.
• Cessation of handshakes, fist-bumps, hugs, high-fives and the like.
• Sanitizing all countertops, chairs, door knobs, light switches etc. between sessions.
• The only toys and items that will be used with your child are those that can be completely sanitized during the session. For example, we will not allow children to use play-doh, bean bags with cloth coverings, crayons, or card board game boards. Children will NOT be permitted to touch paper flash cards. Toys will be sanitized as part of clean-up during each child’s session. Some toys may be sprayed/wiped, and others might be soaked in buckets in our back room “clean up station” where we will have many buckets ready with a bleach solution.
• We will try to do more therapy at tables rather than on floors.
• Children will not reach into "communal" containers, such as when choosing a lollipop.
• OT/PT will treat your child away from others in private rooms rather than sharing our large gym. Therapists will take turns in the gym space.
• If your child is sneezing, has a runny nose, or has oral/nasal secretions that might drip onto our floors we request that you cancel your sessions for now.
• Surgical masks might be worn by therapists in certain circumstances. You may discuss this option with your therapist. We have limited quantity and they will not be for your child’s use.
• We will open our windows as we are able to keep the flow of fresh air running through the building.
• We will sanitize our public spaces and restrooms much more frequently throughout the day.
