💧 𝗔𝗧𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗔 1996: 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗨𝗠𝗠𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗘𝗗 𝗘𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗡𝗘 𝗦𝗖𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝘆, 30 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗻, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗞 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘂𝗽.

In preparation for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics the equestrian world was braced for a serious welfare threat for horses in addition to its altitude:
🌡️ 34°C heat
💦 60%+ humidity

Thanks to the groundbreaking work of Dr David Marlin the Games went ahead safely. His research revolutionised our understanding of equine thermoregulation - horses cool by the latent heat of evaporation. Sweat scrapers should have become a relic of the past.

💡 The science was clear:
• Soak with water
• Leave it on
• Let airflow do the work

𝗡𝗼 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴. 𝗡𝗼 𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗿𝘂𝗴𝘀. 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘇𝗲.

Now, 30 years on, the UK is facing the same conditions. This week:

💦 Humidity exceeding 50%—pushing heat stress thresholds

Atlanta 1996 isn’t a historical case study. It’s modern climate reality.

And yet, incredibly—some veterinary practices are still promoting sponging and scraping. If they haven’t updated their advice in 30 years

It’s 2025. The climate has changed, but the science still stands. It’s time the advice caught up.

Being patient is not an easy thing to do. Horses are really good at not giving us a choice and teaching us to be patient when we are lacking it. They humble us every time we start to think we know what we are doing 🤣

In the same way they also bring us an immense amount of joy when all of the time, hard work, small wins that happened while we were being patient finally pays off. Being patient might not be easy, but it is worth every second ✨

I’ve got big plans. I may not accomplish what I want to in the next year or even 10 years. However, every single day and especially on the worst days (which I’ve had a lot of lately) I am going to get up and try.

Why?

Because improving Equine Health and Wellbeing is my passion and mission. Helping bridge the communication between horse and owner is worth it. Helping horses come back to their fullest potential after time off is worth it.

Here’s to growth and even less sleep while I am chasing this crazy dream of mine 🤣🐴💕

Sunday FUNday 🥰💕

Ride number 4 with Pretzel today 🥨🐴💎

I forgot to get videos and pictures from today’s ride but still wanted to give an update. Today we worked on trotting and this little mare continues to challenge me while giving me an opportunity to build my confidence.

This is the last horse I would have thought to struggle with increasing speed under saddle🤣 We’ve done a ton of ground work with verbal cues and she responds very well on the ground. We made a little bit of progress tonight and I definitely worked harder than she did 😂

I have some ideas to help teach her to trot under saddle and look forward to working with her tomorrow 😁💕

Ride number 3 for this 3 year old 🥨🐴💎

We rode for about about 10-15 minutes tonight and I got her to trot for the first time! She is constantly improving and willing to try new things.

There is something magical about c**t starting. Having the privilege to put the first ride on a horse and laying the foundation that will shape them the rest of their lives is not something to be taken lightly. Seeing this little mare grow to be calm and confident is something I will always be proud of. I am looking forward to many more rides over the next couple months 😁🥰

Week 2 and Ride 2 for Pretzel today! 🥨🐴💎

Today we rode for a little while longer just at a walk. We worked on going forward when asked, turning, and stopping. She stayed nice and calm the whole time and did everything I asked when I asked for it. She stood perfectly for me to get in and out of the saddle.

Preparation is the key 🔑🐴💝

Day 5 of 90 🥨🐴💎

Wrapping up with our last day of training for the week, this little lady deserved some extra pampering. I had her stand tied and relax for while I braided her mane and tail. We did a recap of everything we went over yesterday and quietly settled right into going to work. Pretzel has blown me away with how well she is remembering all of the ground work she was taught through consistent lessons with her owner last year. I’m already excited to work with her next week! 🤩♥️

For those that know me, you know I LOVE my quarter horses. But this little Arab Cross mare is growing on me 🤣 She’s a special one and I’m excited to see where her and her owner end up! 😁💕
