Ever rubbed the top of your shoulders after a long day? That’s your trapezius muscle asking for attention.
The trapezius (or traps) is a large, kite-shaped muscle that runs from the base of your skull, down your neck, across your shoulders and into your mid back. It plays a big role in supporting your neck, stabilizing your shoulders and helping you move your arms.
What happens when it’s tight? You might feel neck stiffness, shoulder tension, headaches that start at the base of the skull, or that constant urge to shrug your shoulders.
What if it’s weak? Weak traps can lead to poor posture, shoulder fatigue, and extra strain on your neck and upper back.
One of the biggest aggravators? Looking down at phones or computers for long periods 📱 When your head shifts forward, the traps have to work overtime to support it.
The best way to keep it healthy is to strengthen your upper back, move your shoulders through full ranges of motion, take posture breaks during the day, & get regular bodywork to release that built up tension.
Your trapezius works hard every day, taking care of it can make a big difference in how your neck, shoulders & upper back feel.
If your traps feel like they’re carrying the stress of the week, massage therapy can help restore the balance and ease tension!
