Dr. Reece again. I saw a question in a new practitioner's group asking for help to make sure they were meeting the requirements for proving medical necessity in their notes, now that they are going to accept insurance. 80% of the replies were 'following' and another 10% recommended chatGPT (PLEASE DON'T!). (I am not affiliated with the software platform I use as an example other than as a paid user.) I wrote this article to help:

Optimizing Medical Necessity Documentation with AI: How EHR Software is Changing the Game For clinicians, demonstrating medical necessity for insurance purposes can be a time-consuming and challenging process. However, leveraging the right EHR software and note-taking format can transform this admin

Hi Folks,

It's Dr. Reece. I was just talking to a recruiter who had some questions about how to find the information for screening Psychologists for education and licensure requirements. He knew how to do background checks, but was unaware of how to check for the details. I sent him an email with links and I thought this little package of quick review might be useful for new practitioners.

Here is how to get the information:

State Licenses: (Google Psychology License Lookup /State/)

State of Texas License: https://bhec.texas.gov/verify-a-license/

State of California License: https://search.dca.ca.gov/

State of Virginia License: https://dhp.virginiainteractive.org/Lookup/Index

National Information:

National Practitioner Data Bank Self Inquiry: (This costs providers $3.00 and it lists all of their information.)

https://www.npdb.hrsa.gov/ext/selfquery/SQHome.jsp

CAQH: All Providers have a special number like a social Security number - Also called an NPI (National Provider Identifier) where all of their history is stored. This is what Insurance Companies use to decide whether or not to credential a provider.

Great tool for Practice Owner’s to have in their toolkit!

Great tool for Practice Owner’s to have in their toolkit!

Mistakes Happen!

We all make mistakes. Even really bad mistakes. In a Just Culture, the goal is to respond in a way that is fair, consistent, and focused on learning, not blame.

The Just Culture Algorithm helps you decide if the situation was:

❓Human error (slip, lapse, mistake) → Console and remediate

❓At-risk behavior (shortcuts or risky decisions without bad intent) → Coach and improve processes

❓Reckless choice (conscious disregard for substantial risk) → Corrective action

To make this work in your practice:

🌟Start with the event, not the person.

🌟Identify the behavior type.

🌟Match your response to the behavior.

🌟Look closely at your systems and processes. Ask what broke that allowed the mistake, shortcuts, workarounds, or reckless choice to happen.

🌟Keep your decision-making consistent and transparent.

When you apply Just Culture well, you build trust, learn from mistakes, and strengthen your culture of safety and accountability.

Have you used Just Culture in your practice?

❓Looking for a little extra funding magic to power your nonprofit’s next big idea?

I know what it’s like to fundraise in a nonprofit…and I know how important every penny is to helping you fulfill your mission 😊

🌟 Here’s a resource I always share with my US-based nonprofit clients: Walmart’s Spark Good Local Grants.

The August through October grant cycle is now open, offering grants from $250 up to $5,000 to support community projects. These funds are limited and go quickly so it is worth applying early if you can.

The application process is simple and free. Just verify your nonprofit and submit your application through Walmart’s Spark Good platform for the Walmart location(s) serving your area.

While this isn’t a huge grant, it can be a helpful boost for your nonprofit’s projects and initiatives.

For all the details and to apply, visit walmart.org.

🤔 Tell me, if you could get a grant for any project right now, what would you do with the money?

If you have questions or want tips on applying, feel free to reach out. I’ve done it many times…I’m happy to help.
