Nighttime bedwetting is very common in childhood 🌙💙

Studies show that up to 15% of 5-year-olds experience nighttime bedwetting, and many children continue to have occasional accidents as they develop bladder control. This is typically related to neurologic and bladder maturation, sleep patterns, and genetics — not behavior, motivation, or parenting.

Most children naturally outgrow bedwetting with time, patience, and reassurance. Pediatricians focus on a child’s overall development, daytime bladder control, and emotional well-being rather than isolated nighttime accidents.

Helpful approaches include:
• Keeping routines calm and predictable
• Avoiding punishment or shame
• Offering reassurance and emotional support
• Celebrating dry nights without pressure

A supportive environment helps children feel safe as their bodies continue to mature.

Picky eating is a normal part of development — especially in toddlers 🍎🥦

As children gain independence, it’s common for them to become more selective with foods. Research shows that many toddlers need 10–15 exposures to a new food before they’re willing to try or accept it. This is about familiarity — not failure.

Helpful strategies for families include:
• Re-offering foods without pressure
• Eating together and modeling balanced meals
• Keeping mealtimes calm and predictable

Pressure-free meals support healthier relationships with food and better long-term eating habits.

At Lone Star Kids Care, your child’s health and safety come first.

We follow the American Academy of Pediatrics vaccine schedule because it is evidence-based, widely supported, and designed to protect children from preventable diseases.

Kids can become dehydrated much faster than adults 💧👶

Because children have smaller fluid reserves and higher metabolic needs, even mild illness — like fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or poor appetite — can lead to dehydration more quickly than parents expect. Early signs are often subtle and easy to miss.

Watch for signs of dehydration:
• Fewer wet diapers or fewer bathroom trips
• Dark yellow or strong-smelling urine
• Dry lips, mouth, or tongue
• Fatigue, irritability, or low energy
• Dizziness or decreased tears when crying

During illness, hydration is just as important as medication. Offering small, frequent sips of fluids (water, oral rehydration solutions, or age-appropriate drinks) is often more effective than large amounts at once.

If your child is refusing fluids, vomiting repeatedly, or showing signs of worsening dehydration, reach out to your pediatrician for guidance. Early support can prevent complications.

Most kids get 6–8 colds per year, especially in school or daycare 🤧
That’s normal- but sometimes symptoms mean more.

Signs it may be time to call your pediatrician:
• Symptoms lasting longer than 10 days
• High or persistent fever
• Ear pain or severe sore throat
• Trouble breathing or wheezing
• Symptoms that worsen instead of improve

Trust your instincts. You know your child best and we’re here to help guide next steps.

Fever is one of the most common reasons parents worry- but it’s also one of the most misunderstood 🌡️

A fever is not an illness. It’s a normal immune response that helps the body fight infection. Most pediatric fevers are caused by viral illnesses and improve on their own.

Important things to know:
• The number matters less than how your child looks and acts
• A child playing, drinking fluids, and responsive is usually doing okay
• Fevers help slow the growth of germs

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, most fevers do not need treatment unless your child is uncomfortable. Always call if your baby is under 3 months, your child is lethargic, dehydrated, or symptoms worsen.

Gastrointestinal viruses are common in winter and can spread quickly among children. The priority during a stomach bug is preventing dehydration, especially when vomiting or diarrhea is frequent.

Home care reminders:
• Offer clear fluids in very small, frequent sips
• Avoid sugary drinks, which can worsen symptoms
• Slowly reintroduce bland foods once vomiting improves
• Ensure your child rests as much as needed
• Look for dehydration signs such as decreased urination, dry lips, or fatigue

If you’re unsure whether your child should be evaluated, please call- our team is here to help you navigate the illness with confidence and support. 💛

Welcome to our new Ask a Provider series! Each month, we’ll take a common parent question and break it down into simple, evidence-based guidance.

This month’s question:
“When should my toddler switch from a bottle to a cup?”
🍼 Most toddlers are ready around 12–18 months.
🥤 Prolonged bottle use can affect teeth and appetite.
✨ Introducing cups early helps with oral development and reduces cavities.

Have a question you want answered? Drop it below- we love helping parents feel informed and supported. đź’›
