The UCC provides personal and group counseling, consultation, outreach events & seminars, and education to our diverse GVSU student body.

The UCC page is designed as an educational site only, and is not intended as a forum for provision of clinical care. Our page is a public site. By voluntarily becoming a fan of our page, your name and Facebook profile will be visible to others. However, if you wish to seek services, you may call us at (616) 331-3266 for more information, or come in to our offices on the second floor of the Student Service building to set up an appointment. Please note that this page is not monitored regularly. If you are currently experiencing a crisis please call Grand Valley Police Department at (616) 331-3255 which is available 24 hours a day, or call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.

Therapy dogs are trained to relieve stress and provide support. They are not intended as a form of individual therapy and do not have specific treatment goals related to mental health. October 10 is World Mental Health Day! Care for your mental health and emotional well-being by participating in this semester's Mental Health Screening Day. Today, University Counseling Center clinicians will be across campus offering free, confidential mental health screenings to students. Stop by for your check-up from the neck-up, and an aroma putty!

Hispanic/Latinx mental health matters, and there can be barriers including language, stigma, and cultural differences for those that want to reach out for support. Hey, Lakers! Did you know that we offer online scheduling? Yep, you read that right! During Fall and Winter semesters, registered students are now able to schedule first-time appointments right on our website.

The process:

1. Answer a couple quick questions. Are you a registered Grand Valley State University student who has not attended an appointment with the Counseling Center after July 1, 2024? If yes, perfect! You may continue.

2. Fill out the client form. Please note that these initial screening appointments are typically scheduled within two business days, and you must arrive 30 minutes prior the starting time of this initial screening appointment. During this short appointment, you’ll talk with a counselor about your situation, and create a plan for next steps.
