While breastfeeding is normal and natural, breastfeeding can also be challenging at times. That's why the pediatricians of Children's HealthCare created, what is now known as, the Lehigh Valley Breastfeeding Center. Our goal is to support all new mothers and babies in any phase of their feeding journey. You do not need to be a patient of Children's HealthCare to schedule an appointment with any of
our IBCLCs and breastfeeding medicine specialists. We have 3 pediatricians/IBCLCs and two other IBCLCs who can help you with any part of your lactation needs. Pediatricians, specially trained in Breastfeeding Medicine are involved in your care, so, in most cases, insurance fully covers your visit. A lactation visit is typically at least one hour in length and includes a full assessment and treatment plan for both mom and baby. We can see you and your child, or just you for some appointments like prenatal, pumping, or ways to increase your milk supply. Oral assessments and lingual frenectomies (ie tongue tie releases) are also performed on location when necessary. We also offer newborn care, prenatal breastfeeding, CPR, infant massage, and other classes to help prepare you for the birth of your baby and support you afterwards. We also have a breastfeeding/pumping moms' group, called The Milk Bar, that is currently being offered in-person the first and third Thursday of each month from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. The group is free, though registration is required at www.lvbreastfeeding.com/milk-bar.
