Is your pedicure really safe for your feet? For older adults and people with diabetes or circulation issues, a simple trip to the salon can sometimes lead to serious problems.

Pedicures may be risky, what do you look for in a salon, and when it’s safer to see a podiatrist instead?

“Taking care of your feet isn’t vanity, it’s vital.” A pedicure can feel like a small luxury that refreshes both your feet and your mood. But when it comes to your health, especially if you’re managing conditions like diabetes or poor circulation, pedicures can carry risks that shouldn’t...

As February comes to a close, don’t forget your foot health 👣🫀

February is American Heart Month, and at Allentown Family Foot Care, we’re reminding our community that heart health and foot health go hand in hand. Because your heart pumps blood to your lower extremities, your feet are often the first place to show signs of circulation problems like Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD).

⚠️ Watch for warning signs:
• Cold or numb feet
• Poor circulation
• Slow-healing wounds
• Changes in skin color or sensation

For patients with diabetes, these risks can be even greater. Proper diabetic foot care and regular evaluations help prevent serious complications and protect long-term mobility.

Cold weather doesn’t slow down serious walkers and runners. But foot and ankle pain can. If winter training or treadmill miles are leaving you with sore heels, aching arches, or tired feet, custom orthotics could be the game changer you need.

Unlike store-bought inserts, custom orthotics are designed specifically for YOUR feet and the way YOU move. They can help with:
✔ Heel pain and plantar fasciitis
✔ Arch pain and flat feet
✔ Shin splints and tendonitis
✔ Knee and ankle strain

The right support keeps you comfortable, balanced, and injury-free all season long.

More people exercise indoors during the winter than any other time of year. Treadmills fill up. Indoor tracks get busy. Neighborhood sidewalks stay active even in cold weather. But increased activity often brings increased pain! And that is where custom orthotics can make a huge difference. Why Walk...

This time of year, we see the same problems walk through our doors, often caused by one thing ... winter shoes and boots.

Tight, stiff, or unsupportive footwear can trigger:
🔹 Heel pain & plantar fasciitis from flat, hard soles
🔹 Ingrown toenails from cramped toe boxes
🔹 Bunion pain and flare-ups from narrow boots
🔹 General foot fatigue and soreness

What feels cozy in January can quietly create real problems by February.

Quick Fix Tips:
✔ Choose boots with good arch support
✔ Make sure there’s wiggle room for your toes
✔ Rotate shoes—don’t wear the same pair every day
✔ Add custom orthotics for proper alignment

If your winter footwear is making every step uncomfortable, don’t wait it out. The right care—and the right shoes—can make all the difference.

Everyone please be careful today. Seniors should let the young bucks shovel.
Diabetics with neuropathy please beware of cold injuries to the feet.
Best to stay inside.
Hopefully, there are still some young ones out there with shovels looking for some extra bucks to earn.
All those guys with gym muscles, today is a good day to put those muscles to work.
Thank God for plows and snowblowers.
Our office will be closed tomorrow.

❄️🦶 Cold Weather + Diabetes = Extra Risk for Your Feet.

If you have diabetes, winter weather can be more than uncomfortable, it can be dangerous. Cold temperatures reduce circulation, and for those with diabetic arterial disease, this can increase the risk of wounds, infections, and slow healing.

⚠️ Watch for warning signs:
• Cold or numb feet
• Color changes in toes or skin
• Foot pain when walking
• Sores that heal slowly

Early evaluation and proper care can help prevent serious complications.
